In 1848, he immigrated to America with one brother and one sister and located in Morriston in Puslinch Township. He was converted to God the following year at a meeting in Berlin, ON, which was conducted by Brothers Lehn and Schneider and was received into the Evangelical Association soon after. In 1850, he was married to Margaretha Beier, which union was blessed with fourteen children, three of whom died in infancy and two in their teens. Father Brown was a faithful teacher in the Sunday school for many years, until infirmity prevented his usual activity. On Friday morning, November 26, 1897, he quietly succumbed to infirmities of age, after suffering for several weeks. His last words were: "Come, Lord Jesus, come. " He leaves a sorrowing wife, five sons and four daughters, two sisters, one brother, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law and many friends to mourn over his departure. His time of probation was 77 years, 9 months, 6 days. He died at Morriston on the 26th November 1897. May God grant all his loved ones wisdom unto eternal salvation through Jesus Christ. Rev. M. L. Wing of Berlin preached the funeral sermon on November 28th to a large concourse of people in the Evangelical Church at Morriston, nearly 100 conveyances following his body to the grave.
