    johnRobert Strong.

Here is as clever an Irishman as ever crossed the briny deep to take up his abode in the New World. He was born in the North of Ireland, Octobe 17, 1826, and came to Canada in 1856 landing first at Quebec. From that port he went to Cobourg by boat. At the latter place he worked about three months and then took the stage for Rice Lake. He was on a prospecting tour to found a home of his own and finally reached the neighborhood where he now resides, two miles and a half west of Crosshill, where he took up 100 acres of bush land. He has helped to make the wilderness blossom as the rose, and at present owns one of the best farms in this section. His estate now comprises 200 acres, he having several years ago acquired an additional hundred acres adjoining This season he produced about 4,000 bushels of grain. He goes extensively into hog raising for the market and at the present writing has over one hundred, from those ready for the market to the suckling pig. Now in the seventy-second year of his age he is still hale and hearty and works from daylight until dark with the rest of his family.

Mr. Strong was married about thirty years ago to Miss Rose Ann, daughter of the late John Franzay. She was born in the province of Ulster, Ireland, in 1838 and came to this country with her parents when she was about two years of age. They have a family consisting of two children, a son and daughter. John James, the son, is living at the old homestead and is working the farm with the father. He has a wife and three children and is an enterprising and promising young farmer. The daughter, Eliza Jane single and living at home.

    DEATH OF ROBT.STRONG

The death took place on Thursday of Mr. Robert Strong at the home of his daughter, Mrs. P. A. Snider near Bloomingdale at the advanced age of 86 years, 4 months and 5 days.

The late Robert Strong was born in Ireland and came to Canada at the age of about 23 years, settling near Crosshill.

In 1868 he was married to Miss Rose Francey, who also came from Ireland. Mr. Strong took up farming near Crosshill until three years ago when he moved to Bloomingdale and made his home with his daughter. It will be interesting to note that in 1858 when the late Mr. Strong passed through Berlin and Waterloo on his journey to Crosshill, the latter town could boast of only a few small buildings, the country being sparsely settled at that time.

A family of two children survive, namely John J. Strong and Mrs. P. A. Snider of Bloomingdale. Also two sisters, Miss Strong of Millbank and Mrs. Geo. McKee of Attwood.

The funeral took place on Sunday morning at nine o'clock from the residence of Mr. P. A. Snider near Bloomingdale to the Grace Church and cemetery at Millbank where service and interment took place.
