    Notes:

AUSTIN P. RATHKE - P. ENG. 1927 - 2010 With great sadness, we announce that Austin passed away at Oakview Place on October 8, 2010 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Juta, his son James (Jim), and daughter Karen. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth Birmingham in St. Catharines, Ontario, and cousins in the U.S.A. Austin was born in Northern Ontario to Rev. Walter and Mrs. Alice Rathke on May 29, 1927. When Austin was quite young his father accepted a call to St. Catharines, where Austin grew up. He graduated in 1951 with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto. Austin spent his working life in the gas industry, beginning with manufactured gas and later natural gas. His employer in southern Ontario purchased Greater Winnipeg Gas Co. and Austin was transferred here in 1967. He was a member of Professional Engineering Associations in both Ontario and Manitoba. He was a Life Member of the Canadian Gas Association and The Gas Research Institute of Canada. When he was still working he did a lot of volunteer work. He spent time with Junior Achievement and also on the Board of Governors at the Winnipeg Winter Club, including a term as President. After many years as a lay member of the Council of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba, Austin was honoured with a designation of Honorary C.A. Austin was a long time member of the Winnipeg Winter Club and also St. Charles Golf and Country Club. He really enjoyed the time spent there and the friendships he developed. Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church (corner of Cavalier and Hamilton) with reception to follow. We wish to thank all of the staff on the 3rd floor at Oakview Place for their excellent care for the past two years. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, a donation to a favourite charity in Austin's memory would be appreciated. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
