    A Waterloo man who worked as compositor with Bean Printing and Publishing Company Ltd... Waterloo, for 42 years, Charles W. (Bill) Carthy, 54, of 313 King St. North, died today at his resi dence after a brief illness.

    Born June 8, 1905, at Ashton-u-Lyne, Lancashire, England, the son of the late Joseph Carthy and Harriett Hulme, he came to the Twin Cities from England in 1914.

    He was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, Waterloo, the IOOF Germania Lodge, Waterloo and the Samaritan Encampment.

    Surviving are three brothers, George H. of Waterloo and Joseph D. and Cyril of Kitchener, and four sisters, Mrs. William (Eunice) Martin of Erbsville Mrs. Cyril (Beatrice). Schell and Mrs. Mervin (Phyllis) Karn of Kitchener and Miss Eileen Carthy of Waterloo.

    Three brothers predeceased him. Percy and Eric were killed in the First World War and Harold died in 1933.

    The body is at the Edward R Good Funeral Home where the funeral will be conducted Satur day at 2 p.m. with Rev. Allan Barker, rector of All Saints' An glican Church, officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

    An IOOF Lodge service will b held at the funeral home tonight at 9:15 o'clock.

    Joseph Carthy, 90, of 313 King St. North, Waterloo, died Monday in London, Ont., after a lengthy illness.

    He was born Dec. 11, 1869 in Manchester, England, a son of the late James and Catherine (Darlington) Carthy. He married Harriet Hulme in England in 1891. She died in 1947.

    Mr. Carthy came to the Twin Cities in 1913 and had lived here ever since. He served in the Canadian Army during the First World War. He was a member of Kitchener branch of the Canadian Legion, and attended Church of the Holy Saviour, Waterloo.

    Surviving are four sons, George H. and C. William of Waterloo, Joseph D. and Cyril of Kitchener, four daughters Mrs. William (Eunice) Martin of Erbsville, Miss Eileen Carthy of Waterloo, Mrs. Cyril (Beatrice) Schell and Mrs. Mervin (Phyllis) Karn of Kitchener, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Two sons, Percy and Eric were killed in action in World War 1, and a third son Harold died in 1933.

    The body is at Edward R. Good Funeral Home where funeral services will be conducted in the chapel Thursday at 2 p.m. by Rev. A. J. Barker of All Saints Anglican Church, Waterloo. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

    Mrs. Joseph Carthy

    The death of Mrs. Joseph Carthy, 79. occurred at her residence, 277 Borden Ave. South, yesterday.

    The daughter of the late George Uhlme and Harriett Oldfield, she was born in Lancashire, England, July 4. 1868, and came to Kitchener
    in May, 1914. Her marriage to Joseph Carthy, who survives, took place in England, Sept. 11, 1891. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church. Surviving, besides her husband. are four sons, George. Joseph, Charles and Cyril, all of Kitchener; four daughters, Mrs. W. J. (Eunice) Martin, Erbsville; Mrs. Cyril (Beatrice) Schell and Mrs. Mervin (Phyllis) Karn, Kitchener; and Eileen at home; one brother William Uhlme. of England, and one sister Bertha, of England, and 13 grandchildren. Two sons, Eric and Percy, were killed in the First World War and one son, Harold, died in 1933. The body will rest at the Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home until 10 a.m. Wednesday, when removal will be made to the residence for service at 3 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be made in the Woodland Cemetery. Rev. J. N. H. Mills will officiate.
