Among Wellesley village's careful business men stands prominently the name of Mr. Lips. He was born in 1874, being the son of Charles Lips of the township of Wilmot. Prior to engaging in his present business he carried on the boot and shoe business for nine years. After this he purchased his present stock and property, the latter consisting of a storeroom and dwelling house. He also owns the bakery, but he leases that department. There is also a barber shop in connection, where everything in the tonsorial line is done in the most satisfactory style. Mr. Lips' store is headquarters for ice cream and other refreshing delicacies during the hot summer months. In the former he has the reputation of making a fine article. He also makes a specialty of tropical and domestic fruits in season.

His grocery stock is complete in every detail, there being staple and fancy groceries in large supply constantly on band. He also endeavors to have on hand a big supply of good, fresh bread to accommodate his customers or others who happen to require the staff of life. He also has a fine line of confectionery and other nic nacs. The best and most popular brands of flour will be found at his store. In addition be keeps a full supply of school books, stationery, &c, also quite a line of straw hats. Despite the fact that Mr. Lips has experienced a good deal of sickness in his business career, he has supported his family and built up a successful trade, and is to-day one of the responsible business men of the village. Mrs. Lips is a daughter of the late Hillary Hill, one of the pioneers of Wellesley.

    Fatal Accident in Wellesley

On Sunday morning, July 12th, Mr. Henry Hill, of Wellesley Village, started with a one horse carriage for the Evangelical meeting at Lisbon. The load consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Hill, their child, a servant girl, and a lad named Lips, an apprentice as shoemaker in his shop. When a little on the south side of the village, the horse started to kick, and turned to one side, throwing the occupants over an embankment about 15 feet high. Mrs. Hill fell on her head and shoulders, and when picked up it was found that her neck was broken, and that her death had been instantaneous. The rest of the party were bruised, some of them quite seriously, but nothing serious anticipated.
