    John Philip Saltzberger, "a native of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, came to Canada in 1802. He was born June 21st, 1780, and died December 29th, 1860. On September 22nd, 1805, he was married to Veronica Gingerich, sister to old David Gingerich and daughter of old Abraham Gingerich. She was born in 1781 and died in 1810. After the decease of his first wife, he was again married to Mary, daughter of John and Nancy (Bechtel) Biehn. She was the first white child born in the township of Waterloo and quite likely the first in the county. She was born April 24th, 1801, and died September 29th, 1889. They were married in September, 1819."

    SALSBERGER. - On the 5th of October, in Strasburg, Waterloo Co., Ontario, of the infirmities of old age, Sister Salsberger, widow of Philip Salsberger, aged 88 years. Her father, John Biehn, was the original settler on what is now known as the Doon property, where deseased* was born in 1801. She was a widow for twenty-seven years, and had been in poor health a long time. Her remains were consigned to the grave on the 8th at Weaver" church.
