    PASSING OF LATE MR. ROBERTSON

COMMUNITY SHOCKED BY SAD DEATH OF WELL KNOWN CITIZEN LAST FRIDAY

The death of Mr. William Robertson which took place on Friday last came as a distinct shock to the community. For the past six months Mr. Robertson had not been in good health, suffering from nervous attacks, but he had been able to attend fairly regularly to his work at the Snyder Furniture factory, and had also shown his usual interest in the Curling Club.

The late Mr. Robertson was fifty-eight years of age. He was well-known both in town and country, having resided on the farm near here before moving to town. He was universally esteemed and his death is widely regretted. He leaves a wife, but no family. Mrs. Louis Rahn of Elmira, Mrs. William Pfaff, of Mount Forest, and the Misses Eileen and Lizzie Robertson, of Chicago are sisters, and Mr. David Robertson of Elmira is a brother. All attended the funeral.

The funeral took place in Tuesday afternoon from the residence of the late Mr. Robertson to the Union Cemetery, Rev. James Strempfer conducting the obsequies.

    Commits Suicide

A well known resident of Elmira, Wm. G. Robertson ended his life Friday evening by hanging himself in the skating rink. He was missing from his home since noon and was found at the rear of the skating rink at 8 o'clock in the evening life being extinct. A box of poison was found near the body the contents of which he had taken to end his life. The unfortunate man who suffered a breakdown a year ago spent much of his time about the rink being much interested in curling and bowling. Deceased was about 50 years of age.

    W. O. ROBERTSON

About one mile and a half north of Elmira the above named gentleman lives and owns quite an extensive brick and tile yard. He was born on the old Robertson farm, upon which the yard is located, in 1864. He took charge of the yard on his own responsibility about eight years ago and has ever since conducted it with success. He has contributed several millions of brick to the buildings of recent years in Elmira. The yards have a capacity for turning out a million bricks annually if the demand should warrant it. Mr. Robertson manufactures a very superior grade of white stiff, mud pressed brick and for which there is always a good demand when the building season is on. He also manufactures a first-class quality of tile from 2 to 8 inch, which also finds a good sale among the farmers through this portion of Woolwich. His work and prices will compare favorably with those of any other like establishment in the country. This brick yard has been in existence for nearly forty years and has probably furnished brick for more buildings than any other in Waterloo county. There is in connection a feed chopper which is in operation two days each week for patrons who have chopping to do. A 16 horse-power engine furnishes the motive power for the plant. Mr. Robertson is one of our worthy township councilors, receiving a substantial endorsement from the voters for his second term at the recent election. For his first term he was elected by acclamation. The people are evidently satisfied that he is the right man in the right place. He is also a member of the Odd Fellows and Foresters and is at present financial secretary of the latter order. He was married in 1890 to Miss Salome Koch, who was also born and brought up in this section. Mr. Robertson personally superintends his yard and the work done therein and during the working season employs from eight to ten hands. Those who contemplate building a brick residence or other buildings the coming summer should not fail to call at this yard where they will find first class material end at the lowest market price.
