    Notes:

Death of Mr. Robert Scrimger - This very old and respected gentleman died at his residence in Galt on Monday evening last. Some months ago Mr. Scrimger met with a serious fall, from which he has since been a very severe sufferer. The deceased was born in Athol, Scotland, in 1798. With his parents and large family of brothers and sisters he came to this continent, the family settling first in York State. After residing there about fifteen years Mr. Scrimger came to Canada, first settling on land in the Township of London. He remained there but a short time removing to some land just adjoining his brother John's farm on Moffat's Creek. This he sold to the late Andrew Stewart. He then moved on the farm near Martin's Mills, the locality even now being best known to our old residents as "Scrimger's Saw Mill." Residing there for many years he finally moved into Galt, where he has since resided. His widow still survives him. Of his brothers and sisters three brothers and two sisters yet survive him all old men and women. Of his own family four sons, Messrs. Jas. R. William, and David, reside in Galt and Mr. George Scrimger in Beverly. Four daughters are also living.

The funeral took place yesterday and was most largely attended by relatives and the many friends of the family.

Death of a Very Old Resident of Beverly - There passed to his rest on Wednesday evening last, one of the very eldest and most respected residents of the north part of Beverly in the person of Mr. Wm. Anderson. Mr. Anderson was in his 87th year, and up to about a week ago enjoyed good health. He settled on the farm where he died in about 1831, the country then being typical of Beverly in those days and requiring all the manhood that anyone possessed to cheerfully hew out the comfortable home which he enjoyed in his later days. Mr. Anderson was married nearly 61 years ago to Miss Annie McMullen, who still, in her 84th year, survives him. Of the family there survive, Mr. Wm. Ira Anderson, who resides on the homestead, Mr. Nelson Anderson, and Mrs. Wm. Scrimger, of Galt. Three of the children of the family died many years ago. The funeral will take place today (Friday) at 1 o'clock pm, from the residence, Clyde Road, to Mount View Cemetery.

    Notes:

"The End Of A Well Spent Life

By the death at the residence of her son, Mr. Nelson Anderson, in her 90th year, Beverly loses one of it's oldest and most respected residents. Mrs. Anderson's maiden name was Annie Mullen, and though aged as she was, was a native Canadian, having been born in the township of Ancaster in 1805. She was a settler's daughter and when she married her late husband, Mr. W.T. Anderson, who died a little over five years ago, accepted cheerfully the toils of those days. For a few years after their marriage they lived in Flamboro, but her husband wanted his own land, his own farm, and though the difficulties seemed almost insuperable, they took up land in the 10th concession of Beverly, near where now is Clyde. There were no roads or means of travel to reach necessary points, Galt only about four miles off and Dundas over twenty, with no means of reaching except on foot through the bush. In 1832 when they stood in their door-way of their little log house, there was nothing but bush outside their little clearing, and as the evening shades were closed in, the howl of the wolf would be heard from many points and only stout hearts could listen without fear. But use and toil soon made these but the common events of their lives and as the axe was wielded and other settlers came in the sun soon shown on broad fields, and prosperity and peace took the place of heavy toil and anxiety. Six children were born to them of whom three survive, viz.: - Messrs. Wm. Ira and Nelson of Beverly, and Mrs. Wm. R. Scrimger, of Galt. The funeral of the aged lady took place on Friday last to the cemetery here, a very large number of friends from all sections attending."
