DENNIS, MARY (nee Fraser)

Mrs. Richard J. Dennis, in her 78^th year, on Wednesday night, October 31, 1934, at her home at 145 Beverly St. , a well-known resident of Galt and a prominent church worker for nearly half a century, following a sudden heart attack. Born in Puslinch Township, daughter of Alexander Fraser, one of the pioneer settlers there, she had spent most of her life in this district. With the exception of a few years residence in Hamilton after her marriage, she lived the remainder of her life in Galt. A staunch and faithful member of in Wesley United Church at Galt, she was a leading figure in the work of women's organizations within the congregation. Mrs. Dennis was an honorary life member of the Women's Missionary Society. She maintained a fervent interest until about a year and a half ago, when she was taken seriously ill. Although
critically ill at that time, she had fully recovered and only three weeks ago, returned from a five weeks' visit in Toronto. Had she lived, on December 29^th she would have celebrated her 59^th wedding anniversary. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. J. D. Reid of Toronto; Mrs. J. E. Middleton of Welland; one son, A. Fraser of Chicago; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Archie Robertson of Wroxeter. Two sons, Frank and William, predeceased her. Also predeceased by siblings, Murdoch Fraser, William Fraser, Mrs. George Hancock and Mrs. William Mitchell, all formerly residents of Galt. Funeral on Saturday at 2: 30 from the family residence to Mount View Cemetery. Rev. H. L. Roberts, pastor of Wesley United Church conducted, assisted by Rev. S. L. W. Harton of Niagara Falls, a former pastor of Wesley Church and for many years, a close friend of Mrs. Dennis. Relatives were present from Toronto, Hamilton, London, Kitchener, Waterloo, Welland, Niagara Falls, Grand Rapids, Preston and Puslinch. Six nephews were pallbearers: George Hancock, Norman Hancock, Frank Skelly, Robert Clarke, James Fraser of Guelph and Frank Roelofson of Toronto.
