Mrs. Sarah Anne Rellinger - by Record Correspondent - New Dundee, May 29 - Mrs. Sarah Anne Rellinger, a highly respected resident of this community, died suddenly of a heart attack this morning at the home of her son, Angus Rellinger, RR 1, Petersburg. She was 77 years of age. Mrs. Rellinger, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hallman, was born January 3, 1858, on the Hallman homestead near Mannheim. In 1884 she was married to Aaron Rellinger and lived all her life in this community, making her home with her son, Angus, the last number of years. Her husband predeceased her in May, 1921. One daughter, Mrs. Norman Baer and one son, Clayton, also predeceased her. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Milton Pfoll of near Plattsville, Mrs. Bernhardt Hagey of Puslinch, three sons, Angus and Ralph of Petersburg and Norman of near Bright. Also 17 grandchildren and one brother, Levi Hallman of Manheim. Mrs. Rellinger was a member of the Latschar Mennonite church where funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon after a brief service at the home of her son, Angus, at 2 o'clock. Rev. M. Hallman of near Mannheim will be in charge of the service.

HALLMAN . - On the 13th of March, in Wilmot township, Waterloo Co., Ont., Bro. John Hallman, aged 75 years, 7 months and 12 days. Came from Pennsylvania with his parents in the year 1824; was married to Sarah Bergy in 1838; lived in matrimony 48 years; was the father of 18 children of whom 12 survive him. He was buried on the 15th at Latshaw's meeting-house where a large concourse of relatives and friends had assembled. Appropriate remarks were made by Moses Bowman and Noah Stauffer, from 2 Cor. 5: 1 and Prov. 4: 32

Henry Rueckert The Last Will and Testament of Henry Rueckert the Elder of the Township of Wilmot, Yeoman, who died on or about the nineteenth day of August in the year of our Lord 1862 at the Township of Wilmot, aforesaid, and who at the time of his death had a fixed place of abode at Wilmot, was proved and registered in the said Surrogate Court a true copy of which said Last Will and Testament is hereunder written, and that the administration of all and singular the personal estate and effects, rights and credits of the said deceased and any way concerning his will was granted by the aforesaid Court to John Hallman, of the Township of Wilmot, Yeoman and Isaac Krupp of the same place, Waggon Maker, the Executor named in the said Will….

In the name of God, Amen. I Henry Rueckert the Elder of the Township of Wilmot, being sick and weak of body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of Death and the uncertainty of the time thereof to the end that I may be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please my God to call me hence, have now determined to direct what disposition shall be made of my property after my decease and after naturely[sic] considering the circumstance and condition of all those among whom as my heirs at law or the objects of my gratitude or affection in my judgement my estate shall be distributed, I do make, publish and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament hereby revoking and making null and void all other Wills and Testaments by me heretofore made. And as to my wordly[sic] estate, and all the property, real, personal or mixed of which I shall die seized and possessed or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease. I devise, bequeath and dispose thereof in manner following. To Wit. Imprimis. My Will is that all my just debts and funeral charges shall by my Executors hereinafter named be paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as shall by him or them be found convenient. I give, devise and bequeath to my son John Rueckert of the Township of Wilmot, the south half of Lot Number One on the north side of Bleams Road in the said Township of Wilmot, save and excepting those building lots now forming part of the Village of Manheim[sic] and also that certain piece of parcel of land lying on the south east corner of the said south half lot which has been taken off for a meeting house site, to have and to hold the same to him and his heirs, Executor, administrators and assigns to his and their use and behoof forever. But this devise and bequest made on the condition that my said John Rueckert shall share and divide and pay and deliver or cause to be shared, divided and delivered the sum of money and the articles and things mentioned in a certain instrument of writing made for the purpose as hereinafter more particularly prescribed and in all things well, faithfully, truly observe, perform, fulfil and keep the covenants grants articles contained and agreements whatsoever which on the part and behalf of the said John Rueckert are or ought to be kept, done and performed as comprised and mentioned in a certain written instrument of writing made in the nature of a bond for a life maintinance, bearing date the thirty first day of December, 1853, and registered in the Registry office at Berlin in the County of Waterloo in Liber C.2 for Wilmot Folio 272, number of memorial 268. Item, I give, devise and bequeath to my heirs at law the sum of one thousand dollars to be equally divided to and among my said heirs at law and to be paid to them in the manner and form as mentioned in the said written obligation or instrument of writing by Executors to my said heirs at law as their respective share or shares respectively fall or become due, to have and to hold to them my said heirs respectively and to their respective heirs, Executors, administrators and assigns, their several and respective shares as aforesaid to their several and respective use and behoof forever. But the share or shares of my Daughter Anna Reuckert share shall be and remain in the hands of my said son John Rueckert for safe keeping and shall be him be paid to her from time to time as she may be in want of or shall or may stand in need of it. Let it be the interest of her share of the money, or part of the principal sum of her share as the case may be so that she does not suffer on account of it. Item. And of all the rest and residue of my estate, real, personal or mixed of which I shall die seized and posssessesd, or to which I shall be entitled at the time of my decease, I give, devise and bequeath to be equally divided to and among my heirs at law aforesaid, to have and to hold the same to them respectively and to their representatives forever. Benjamin Hallman, "was born September 18th, 1783, in Perkiomen Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where he followed farming as his calling. During the great financial depressions from 1816 until 1827 many of that calling in Montgomery and other counties failed financially, and in order to save their creditors from losing any money, the distressed farmers sold their farms at a great sacrifice and paid their debts, and with whatever little balance left they wended their way to Canada where land could be had cheap and thus made another attempt to gain a free home. And as a rule all these parties in a very few years were the possessors of valuable farms. Such was the case with Benjamin Hallman, our Canadian progenitor. He suffered financially during the great crisis as aforesaid, and, finding things to his advantage, he moved to Canada in 1825 (See page 56 for more information) and settled in Waterloo County, two miles west of the town of Waterloo. Here he resided until spring (1826) when he moved to North Dumfries Township, about one mile east of Roseville, where he had purchased a most beautiful farm, then nearly all forest. This farm is now in possession of Menno H. Hallman. Here the old progenitor died full of years, September 10th, 1869. On September 2nd, 1802, he was married to Elizabeth, daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Harley) Detweiler. She was born August 8th, 1784, and died August 9th, 1856. To them was born a numerous family, all of which were born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, save the two youngest, Hannah and Wendel, who were born in Waterloo County, Ontario"
