    THOMSON, JANET "BETSY"(Nee McCormick)

Death of an Old Resident of Puslinch

Relict of John Thompson, whose obituary was announced in April 1892. Quietly and peacefully, on Wednesday evening, very late August or very early September (possibly the 1 st) 1897, surrounded by most of her family, who are so well and favourably known in this section of the state. Mrs. Thompson was in her 79th year, having been born in Argyleshire, Scotland on January 12th 1819, the only daughter of the late John McCormick of Puslinch, county of Wellington, ON. She became the wife of the late John Thompson in 1837, settling on a farm in the same neighbourhood, where they remained for forty-two years and where all their large and respectable family were born and matured into adulthood. The family consisted of seven daughters and three sons, the latter being James and Neil Thompson of Cavalier; and John of Bathgate, ND. The daughters are Mrs. William Scott and Mrs. William Richmond of Dumfries, ON; Mrs. Robert Morton, Mrs. Thomas Carrick, Mrs. George Taylor, Mrs. J. T. Blacklock and Mrs. John Me Gilvary, who are all residents in and around Bathgate. Until five years ago, on the death of her husband, she had always had wonderful health and vigour. That event seemed to affect her to such an extent that, that period marked a decided change upon her hold of life. Although her children vied with each other to make her remaining days or years of life a comfort and pleasure, she seemed to feel that this world could offer no inducements that would offset the joy and happiness that awaited her on the other shore. Her whole life was devoted to her family, friends and church, she having early in life become connected with the Presbyterian Church, to which she remained a faithful and consistent member through life and died in the glorious hope of a promised resurrection. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Richmond. The pallbearers were her five sons-in-law, Robert Morton, Thomas Carrick, George Taylor, James Blacklock and John McGilvary and her nephew, Donald Thompson. A large concourse followed her body to the Bathgate Cemetery.
