A well-known Ayr resident for over half a century, Francis (Frank) Powell died at his home on Piper St. on Saturday in his 79th year. He had been in failing health for some time. The late Mr. Powell was a native of the Hatchley district. He came to Ayr as a youth and was employed for some time at the David McCaul Creamery, which was located in the building on the south side of the laneway which runs alongside the present post office. Following his marriage to Ethel Ronald, who predeceased him many years ago, they moved to Brantford for a period, and then returned to Ayr to reside in the house where Mr. Powell spent the remainder of his life. He was at one time employed at the former Hecker-H-O plant in Greenfield, but for many years had lived retired. The late Mr. Powell was an ardent angler and a keen follower of local and national sports. Died, in North Dumfries, on Wednesday, Feb. 6th, 1924, at 7 p.m., Robert Ritchie, in his 70th year. To live practically the allotted span of life in one community is an achievement experienced by a small percentage of people - a percentage greatly exceeded, on the other hand, by the number who roam the wide world ever and seldom settle n on place for any extended length of time. The subject of the memoirs was born in Blenheim township, only a few miles from where he died, and spent the intervening years on the farm now occupied by his son William, where he led a quiet, unassuming life, intent only on successfully pursuing his honorable calling as a tiller of the soil. In religion Mr. Ritchie was a Presbyterian and in politics a Conservative - latterly becoming allied with the U.F.O. movement. He was well and favorably known throughout the section, and will be mourned by a wide circle of friends. A few years ago the decreased purchased a residence in Ayr, with the intention of spending his declining years in the village which he had been expand almost from its inception, but fate willed it otherwise and Mr. Ritchie ended his days in the township in which he spent his youth and manhood. His wife, a sister, Mrs. Henry Guthrie, Paris, three sons and a daughter survive him. The family comprises William on the homestead, Mary at home, Thomas in South Dumfries, and albert at home. The funeral took place on Saturday when interment was made in the Ayr cemetery, Rev. J. J. Brown conducting the last rites. The pallbearers were Messrs. John McLeod, Walter Scott, Wm. Riddell, David Gemmell, and Mathison and Robert Morton.
