    Mrs. Harold J. Gellatly

    Mrs. Harold Gellaty, 58, of 15 John, St. East, Waterloo, died suddenly yesterday at K-W Hospital. She was the former Pearl Irene Eagle, daughter of the late James Eagle and Elizabeth Hodson. She was born April 1, 1896, in Hespeler. A member of St. John's Anglican Church, she was also a member of the Canadian Legion Auxiliary, the Princess of Wales Chapter IODE and the Women's Guild of Christ Anglican Church.

    Her marriage to Harold Gellatly took place in London, England, July 6, 1916.

    Surviving besides her husband are four sons, James, Reginald and Bruce of Kitchener and Douglas of Almonte; four daughters. Mrs. A. E (Gwen Hainsworth, Mrs. W. A. (Audrey) Weiler and Mrs. R. L (Constance) Cruichshank all of Kitchener and Mrs. W. H. (Shirley) Knack of Detroit; three brothers, Harold of Burlington, Ross of Toronto and Wilbur of Saginaw, Mich; two sisters, Mrs. George (Maude) Bevan of Galt and Mrs. L(Beatrice) Dryadale of Hamilton, 14 grandchildren and her stepmother, Mrs. James Eagle of Preston.

    Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon with a private service at Schreiter Sandrock Funeral Home at one o'clock and a public service at St. John's Anglican Church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery with Rev. C. C. W. Mixer officiating, assisted by Rev. A. W. Dillistone. The body is at the funeral home until after the private service Saturday when removal will be made to the church.

    James Eagle

    PRESTON, July 16 - James Eagle, prominently known in building circles in the district over a period of many years, and a well-known resident of Preston, died at his home, 268 Guelph St., yesterday afternoon at the age of 80 years. Mr. Eagle had been ailing since March. Born in Puslinch Township, he had resided in Preston and district until 18 years ago when he moved to Hamilton. He returned to Preston two years ago, Mr. Eagle, was a building contractor, constructed many homes and buildings in Preston and district. He retired from his active trade last December. A member of St. Paul's United Church, Preston, he was a former member of the Canadian Order of Foresters. Re erved as an aldermanic member of Preston Council about 1912, and was actively interested in community affairs and undertakings. Surviving are his wife, Sarah Kerr; three sons, Harold of Burlington, Wilbur of Saginaw, Mich., and Ross K., of Toronto; three daughters. Mrs. Harold Gellatly, Kitchener, Mrs. George H. Bevan, Galt, Mrs. Earl Drysdale, Hamilton; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Adams, Preston, 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His first wife, Elizabeth Hodgson, predeceased him in 1902. The remains are resting at the Stager-Pass Funeral Home, Preston, from where funeral will take place on Wednesday at 2: 30. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.

    August and Herman Prestien were partners in Prestien Bros. till after August died; Then Charles J. Bartels went in with Herman and they operated an important business as Prestien and Bartels; James Eagle was boss of a considerable gang which included two brothers, William and Elijah, and others and Oliver Gingrich had also a gang of his own. Both Herman W. Prestien and Oliver Gingrich were fine carpenters. Did nice work.

    EAGLE, JAMES


    The funeral for Mr. Eagle was held on Wednesday at 2: 30 from the Stager-Pass Ltd. Funeral Home in Preston. He died at his home, 268 Guelph St. in Preston, at 4 on Monday afternoon, July 15, 1946, in his 81st year. He had been in poor health since March. Born in Puslinch Township, Mr. Eagle had resided in Preston and district with the exception of sixteen years in Hamilton. He returned to Preston in May 1944. Associated with the building trade all of his life and prominently known in building circles over many years, he constructed many homes and buildings in Preston and area. He retired last December. He attended St. Paul's United Church in Preston and had been a member of the Canadian Order of Foresters. Serving on the Preston Council about 1912, he was actively interested in community affairs. Surviving are his wife, Sarah Kerr; three sons and three daughters, Harold of Burlington; Wilbur of Saginaw, Ml; Ross K. of Toronto; Mrs. Harold Gellatly of Kitchener; Mrs. George H. Bevan of Galt; Mrs. Earl Drysdale of Hamilton; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Adams of Preston; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His first wife, Elizabeth Hodgson, predeceased him in 1902. Rev. F. C. Miller of St. Paul's United Church officiated at the service. Mrs. R. Evans played the organ. Pallbearers were three sons-in-law, Harold Gellatly, George Bevan and Earl Drysdale; two grandsons, Vern Eagle of Burlington; James Gellatly of Kitchener; and a cousin, Reuben Eagle of Preston. Interment was in Preston Cemetery.

    Wife of Samuel Eagle, died in 1856. During improvements in the Hespeler Cemetery, her grave stone was discovered. For some years before a school was organized, she taught the children in the Puslinch Lake district in her home.
