    Mrs. Caroline Gingras, 83, of 15 Cameron St. north, died Friday, June 5, at the Calcott Nursing Home, Stratford, after a brief illness. Born April 8, 1876, in Wallace township, she was a daughter of the late John Gole and the former Nancy Gillis. A former resident of Stratford for many years, she came to Kitchener in 1954. She attended Alma Street United Brethren Church. Her husband, Joseph Gingras, predeceased her in July, 1946. Surviving are five sons, Edward, Albert, Arthur, all of Stratford, Joffre of Brantford and Wilfred of Toronto; two daughters, Alice Gingras of Kitchener and Mrs. B. G. (Blanche) Pinner of North Hollywood, Calif.; three brothers, John Gole of Kitchener, Leander Gole of West Montrose and Joel Gole of Richan, Ont.; a sister Mrs. Catherine Thoman of Waterloo, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was born December 15th, 1828. Soon after their marriage they moved one mile north of Breslau, on the farm now owned by their son, Solomon S., where they resided until October 23 1889, then they moved to near St. Kilian, Nobles County, Minnesota, where they are now residing and spending the evening of their life in comfort and ease. To them were born eight children"

    Jacob Gole passed away Wednesday night at the home of his son, M.E. Gole at the ripe old age of over ninety five years. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the M.E. church, Rev. J.G. Waterman preaching the sermon. Interment was made in the Ocheyedan cemetery.

    Jacob Gole was born in Stutyard, Germany, October 15, 1819 and died at the home of his son, M.S. Gole in Ocheyedan, December 14, 1914, aged 95 years, 1 month and 24 days. When about ten years of age, he came to America with his parents. In 1847 he was united in marriage with Catherine Shoemaker. They set up housekeeping on a homestead 1 mile north of Breslow, Ontario, where they remained for 42 years, when they moved to Nobles County, Minnesota. In 1893 they came to Ocheyedan. For the past 11 years the deceased made his home with his son, M.S. Gole. About a year ago his wife and life companion was taken to her long home; one son also preceded him in death. The summons came at 8 o'clock on Wednesday evening, when quietly and peacefully he closed his eyes in sleep. The surviving relatives are M.S. Gole, Ocheyedan, J.S. Gole, Grand Rapids, Minnesota; Solomon Gole, Bridge Port, Canada; Mrs. Boonstiht, Pilger, Minnesota; Mrs. Wenger, San Lae, Michigan; Mrs. Stauffer, Olds Canada; Mrs. Wellein, Seattle, Washington.

    Joseph Gilles. of Conestogso. Passes Over to the Majority After a Lingering Illness

    There died in Conestoga on Saturday morning at two o'clock, May 1898, one of the village's oldest citizens Mr. Joseph Gilles. While the deceased bad already attained the advanced age of seventy-five years, old age was not the direct cause of his death. About year ago a growth of A cancerous nature began to develop on the side of his neck, which gradually became more aggravating and painful, eating into his vitals despite the efforts of the best a medical to prevent The malady finally reached the internal parts of the neck, and then it wsas ony a question of weeks and days when the suffering patient would be compelled to succumb to the inevitable moment which none of us can avoid. But the last minnutes of the sufferer were calm, and in spite of his terrible affiction he passed away peactfully, while his children and neighbors stood around his bedside,

    The deceased was s typical German, having been born in Mierchensich Regierungs Bezirk Hachen, Kreis Montschau, Koenig Reich Preusen, May 14, I1823. After reaching the age of twenty years and serving the time required in the army of his native land he emigrated to Canada, which was short fifty-five years ago. His first venture to make his own living in the New World was in Berlin, then a hamlet. Here he learned the tailoring trade. On the 9th September 1851, he was joined in wedlock to Miss Mary Narbgsng, by Rev. Frederick W. Bindeman. They were blessed with seven children, viz Elizsbeh, living in Berlin Nancy, near Breslau; Caroline, in Berlin; Nancy Ann, in Cleveland, O.; Anna, in New Brunswick, New Jersey; Henry, blacksmith, St. Jacobs, and William in Lima, O. The mother, at present in the 67th year of her age, together with all the children, survive the departed.

    Deceased, while in Berlin, met with several serious financial losses. He and a brother built what is now known as the Grammar School, sinking quite a large sum in the venture. He afterwards kept a hotel in Strasburg, probably about forty fire years ago. He has Lived in Conestogo about forty-one or forty-two years where he worked at his trade. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, and the burial services were conducted by that denomination on Monday last. the funeral was largely attended by relatives friends, and neighbors who assembled to pay their last tribute of respect to a worthy neighbor and friend,
