    PHILLIPS, Cecil G. - Passed away at the K-W Hospital, on Friday, Oct. 10, 1980, Cecil G. Phillips, aged 77 years, of 31 Bloomingdale Rd., Kitchener.

    He was retired from Rumpel Felt Ltd., and had been the former chief of police of the village of Bridgeport for over 20 years. He was a member of Emmanuel United Church, Kitchener (Bridgeport).

    Surviving is his wife the former Violet. Kuntz. one son Roger of RR 1, Elmira; brother of Fred Shanks of Waterloo, Marjorie (Mrs. Harold Berner) of Kitchener, Mrs. Jean Hensman of Scarborough, and Cleo (Mrs. Russel Hawson) of Brantford. Surviving are three grand-children, Valerie Foerster, Tracey and Lance Phillips, and one great-granddaughter, Rebecca Foerster. He was predeceased by one daughter, Audrey, and two brothers, Edward and Robert.

    Mr. Phillips' family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, after Sunday 2 p.m. Funeral and committal service in the funeral home chapel, Tuesday at 2 p.m. Rev. William Wilkinson officiating. Interment Memorial cemetery, Kitchener (Bridgeport). Expressions of sympathy may be shown by contributions to the K-W Parents of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Association.

    Retired police chief dies at 77

    Cecil "Phip" Phillips, former police chief of Bridgeport for 21 years, died Friday at K-W Hospital.

    Phillips, 77, off 31 Blooming-dale Rd., Kitchener, retired from his police duties in 1965. At that time it was considered a part-time job but he was on call 24 hours a day. Phillips also worked at the Rumpel Felt Company Ltd. in Kitchener and was truant officer in Bridgeport for K-W Collegiate, Eastwood Collegiate and the Bridgeport public and separate schools.

    He once recalled how Bridgeport in the 1950s was the weekend activity centre for young people from the Twin Cities, Guelph and Hamilton. Because of that, he was kept busy controlling drunks and stopping fights almost every weekend. Phillips is survived by his wife, the former Violet Kuntz and a son who lives in Elmira. He was predeceased by a daughter, Audrey. Funeral services will be held Sunday followed by interment at Memorial Cemetery, Bridgeport.

    Henry Kuntz Dies In His 70th Year

    Well Known Retired Merchant Had Been ill for Year.

    It is again our duty to chronicle the passing of another of Baden's highly respected citizens in the person of Mr. Henry Kuntz, aged 69 years, retired local merchant. He had been in ill health for about a year. Mr. Kuntz was born at Conestogo on Aug. 29, 1867. For 32 years he was a general merchant here, retiring five years ago. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Forester's Order. The deceased is survived by his wife, Anna Pfeffer, four daughters and three sons. The children are Mrs. C. Phillips, Kitchener, Mrs. J. Amstein, of Brodhagen, Mrs. L. Kuntzie, Dublin, Miss Doris Kuntz, at home; Harry Kuntz and Leslie Kuntz, both of Baden; Robert, at home. There are also two brothers, Jacob Kuntz, Conestoga and Charles Kuntz, Shoal Lake, Man. The funeral was private at the residence at 2 p.m. Wednesday and following the residence service there will be a public service at Livingston Presbyterian Church and interment will be made in Fairmount cemetery. Rev. George L. Douglas officiated.

    CONESTOGO

    OBITUARY. - Died, at his residence on the 9th inst., Mr. Jacob Kuntz, of a lingering illness. Deceased was born in Rinthel, western Germany, near the borders of France and Baden, Sept. 23rd, 1823, was married to Philippena Hermann, July 15th 1850; about one year afterwards he and his worthy partner in life emigrated to Canada, and took up their future abode in the fertile county of Waterloo, living for short time near Heidelberg; he has been resident of Conestogo for nearly 43 years, where he acquired and commodious and comfortable home. Formerly he conducted hotel business, later for several years he ran cooper shop, but of late withdrew from actual business and lived retired. He had nine children, seven of whom survive him, five sons and two daughters. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon. The Lutheran church, of which he was member, could not contain all who had assembled from around home and several places at distance to perform the last act of respect to one who was well known for his kindness and affability, The Rev. Mr. Walbaum performed the funeral services at the grave and in the church. Messrs George Dabmer. Wm. Loeback, Henry Euler, Henry Dahmer, Wm. Cole and Chas. Hass were pall bearers.

    Death of Mrs. Jac. Cuntz

    On Thursday forenoon there passed peacefully away after being laid up for some years more or less, one of the oldest residents in the person of Mrs. Jacob Cuntz. Deceased was born in Germany and after her marriage to the late Mr. Cuntz, who predeceased her by nearly 21 years, they emigrated to Canada and took up their residence here and had since continuously resided here. She attained the ripe old age of 84 years, 4 months, and 14 days and leaves to mourn her death 5 sons, Geo., in Wisconsin, Chas. in Shoal Lake, Man., Jacob at home, Noah in Kitchener and Henry in Baden, also 2 daughters, Phoebe, Mrs. Wm. Ziegler, of Bridgeport, and Eleanor, Mrs. Walter J. Snider, Conestogo. Besides these, one brother survives, Adam Herrmann of near Elmira.

    The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon and was largely attended by the many friends and acquaintances from far and near who came to pay a last tribute of respect to the departed. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community.
