Born in Germany, nee Christina Seefeldt.
The village and community was shocked when it was learned that Mrs. samuel Shelley had passed away about 6 o;clock on Saturday evening after a few days' illness that was not considered of so serious a nature.
A heart affliction setting in late in the afternoon brought on her sudden death in her 78th year.
The late Mrs. Shelley, whose maiden name had been Christina Seefeldt, was the oldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Karl Seefeldt of this place, born in Germany, Sept. 14, 1857, and when ten years of age she came to this country with her parents. Her youth was spent in the St. Jacobs section, where, on Nov. 28, 1897, she married Samuel Shelley, and went to Waterloo, where they resided for 6 1/2 years. Early in the spring of 1894 they moved to the small farm at the Grand River bridge, which has been the home for the rest of her days. The departed was of a very friendly disposition and had occasion to make many friends during her 41 years of residence.
There survive her bereaved husband, one daughter, Luella, at home, and one son, Nelson in Kitchener, als one brother, Karl of Spokane, Wash., U.S.A. and two grandchildren. one daughter, Mrs. Harold Trussler, predeceased her mother three years ago.
The funeral which was largely attended took place on Tuesday afternoon. A brief service was held at the home at 1: 30 after which the remains were taken to Calvary Evangelical Church St., for the chief service and following this interment was made in Calvary Church cemetery at St. Jacobs. Rev. W.J. Yaeger and Rev. J. Ure Stewart were in charge of the services while Messrs. W.S. Wright, Allan Good, J.J. Wilkinson, Noah Stroh, Arthur James and Milton Weber acted as pallbearers.

    Notes:

It becomes our sad duty to chronicle the death of one of our old residents, of whom we have quite a number that have passed the three score and ten. Death entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Shelley and took from it the latter's mother, Mrs. Seefeldt, on Sunday morning. The deceased had been a sufferer from cancer of the stomach for many months, but only last week did it show its effects to such an extent that she had to take to her bed. She bore all her suffering during her long illness with Christian fortitude.

Deceased (nee Wilhelmina Joecks) was born in Jacobsburg, Germany, in April 6th, 1836, where she spent the best part of her life. In 1857 she married the late Karl Seefeldt who predeceased her by 7 ½ years. In 1836 they came to America with their family and lived for many years in St. Jacobs, from where they moved here. The lived on the farm now owned by Mr. Shelley, later …?... removed to St. Jacobs then back to this place again, when, as stated above, on Aug. 8th, 1907 the late Mr. Seefeldt died after which deceased lived with her two daughters here and at Berlin. The deceased left to mourn her loss 1 son Charles lately of Alberta, and 2 daughters, Christina, (Mrs. Sam Shelly) here and Mary, (Mrs. Fred Kraatz) of near Petersburg, also a number of grandchildren. Several sons and daughters have also predeceased their mother in late years. Deceased had reached the ripe old age of 78 years 11 months and 1 day. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon from the residence of Mr. Sam Shelley to St. Jacobs Evangelical church and cemetery for service and burial. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the community in their loss.
