    Notes:

Death of William Gies - A sudden and unexpected death took place Sunday evening, when William Gies a resident of St. Clements, expired very suddenly. He, with his wife and some friends, went after supper to visit a neighbor, Mr. George Brenner, and while seated with the rest talking as usual, he suddenly gave signs of expiring. All efforts to restore him were of no avail, and it was soon apparent that death had set in. Deceased was 68 years of age. He was born in Wellesley township and was a resident of this district nearly all his life. In former years he was a heavy land owner, being the possessor of the large farms now occupied and owed by his sons, Wm. V. Gies, John Gies and Conrad Gies. For many years he resided on the farm of the latter. Some eight years ago he took up his residence in St. Clements, where he lived a retired life. His jovial figure will be greatly missed. He leaves a widow, five sons and three daughters, who have our profound sympathy in their bereavement. The funeral took place Tuesday and was largely attended.

ST. AGATHA SETTLERS, WITH TIME THEY OBTAINED THE PATENT FOR THEIR FARMS.

When they came can not be stated. But the time of their getting the Patent for their land can be given for some. It must however be remembered that nearly all came poor, and had to slave and economize for years before they could pay for their land and get the title to it. ... Conrad K.
