    Notes:

    Death of Mrs. Lionel Foster

Many of our older residents will learn with regret of the death of this lady, which took place at Burlington, Iowa, on the 4th inst. In the early days of Galt, Mrs. Foster and her husband occupied a prominent positon in the village, and were known to every resident therein and for miles around. They removed from Galt many years ago, and now but comparatively few are left to whom the announcement we now make will bring up memories of days long since past.

The Burlington Hawkeye of Saturday, Dec. 5th, has the following reference to this event: -

"We are deeply pained to announce to our readers this morning the death of Mrs. C M. Foster at her residence, No. 922 North Fifth street. For a number of years Mrs. Foster has been troubled with palpitation of the heart. Last summer she was evidently worse and was taken for a time to Michigan, but was not at all improved by the change. For several weeks she has been confined to her bed and gradually losing health and strength until yesterday morning at three o'clock when the silent summons freed her from her sufferings.

"Mrs. Foster's maiden name was Caroline M. Sampson and she was born at Kingston, Canada, July 20th, 1813. She was married in February, 1837 at Ancaster, Canada, to Mr. Lionel Foster and resided continuously n the Dominion until 1856, when with her husband she came to Iowa. She was the mother of four sons and four daughters, of whom two sons and two daughters are now living: Mr. T. G. Foster, Mr. William P. Foster and Miss Emma Foster and Miss Mary Foster, all residing in this city. Mr. Lionel Foster died here seven years ago, since which time his widow has resided with her daughters and her son, Mr. Wm. P. Foster, in this place.

"Mrs. Foster was brought up and educated in the Church of England, but for over twenty years has been a faithful and consistent member of the Presbyterian church of this city. Her life has always been marked by earnest piety and unobtrusive, and retiring conduct. Although mingling but little in society, she had many dear friends who loved her for her merits and who will greatly miss her."
