    Notes:

Almost exactly 13 decades ago, the appropriately named Robert Y. Fish made a recommendation for which generations of Waterloo residents say "Thanks!" A prominent merchant and postmaster in Linwood for 30 years, Fish moved to Waterloo in the late 1880s, where he again rose to commercial and civic prominence.

After two terms on town council, he was elected mayor in 1894, then returned to Linwood. But earlier, on August 4, 1890, as chair of Waterloo's parks committee, Fish had moved to invoke the province's newly established Public Parks Act and spend $5,000 to establish a major park in Waterloo.

A public vote in September approved the purchase of the 65-acre (26-hectare) farm of the late Jacob Eby, which bordered a mill pond. West Side Park officially opened in 1893. Among its attractions were an athletic field, bicycle racing track, grandstand, fancy entrance gates, lovely gardens and the 1820 school house. West Side generated such interest that nearby Berlin was goaded into creating Victoria Park three years later.

James Reynolds removed to live near his family in Sanilac Co MI by 1850, with Lydia and children. He died shortly after the MI Fed census of 1850, as I find Lydia back in Pickering, Ontario with two of their children living. It may be that the children named Nelson and Sarah, older children than Mary Jane and her brother Henry, could be of another wife, not Lydia. Henry died at Detroit, and is buried in Leamington Ontario Canada.
