Kitchener man who killed ex-girlfriend found dead in Toronto hospital


TORONTO - A Kitchener man who's been detained in a psychiatric hospital since being found not criminally responsible for killing his ex-girlfriend was found dead at a Toronto hospital last month.

A spokesperson at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health confirmed Rohan Hunigan died on July 17. But Michael Torres would not say how he died. He said an internal review is underway.

The hospital has reported the death to the Ontario Coroner's Office, as required by law.

Toronto Police also investigated Hunigan's death. A police spokesperson said it isn't clear whether the investigation is finished and would give no further details.

Hunigan was found not criminally responsible in 2008 for the brutal killing of his pregnant girlfriend, Vanessa Sismar.

Hunigan attacked Sismar with a kitchen knife while she was making dinner for her six-year-old son in her Victoria Street apartment in Kitchener in June 2005....
