Mr. Tribe died during the first winter that the family was in Canada and was buried near Cornell's, on the site of which is now the 'Cress House' in Preston. In this family there were: Benjamin, who married Mary Ann Lepard and lived in Pilkington; Johnathan married Martha Cornell, while Harry and Richard were not married. The daughters were Sarah, who was Mrs. Rapson; Charlotte was Mrs. Evans, and Mary was Mrs. Thomas Irvine, of Paisley, and it was at her home that her mother, Mrs. Tribe, died. The home of the 'Tribe' family was first in the township of Dumfries, then the mother and some of the family came to the township of Pilkington and lived in a log house which stood between the road and the river, not quite half way between what is best known as the 'James Ross' farm and Inverhaugh post office.

The members of this, the older Penfold family, children of Jesse Penfold and Jane Tribe, were: Matilda, born in Sussex, England, on the same day as Queen Victoria, May 24th, 1819, and came to Canada in 1832. She was married to Thomas Adsett and they lived on a farm on the east side of the river road, which was the next farm south of Mr. Wollis'. They afterwards removed to Guelph, where Mr. Adsett died on April 21st, 1870, at the age of seventy. Jesse Penfold married Hannah Wismer; Caroline married Henry Wilbee, a son of Henry Wilbee, of Elora, and now lives in Brussels; Esther, born on board ship in 1832, married Owen Roberts and lived for many years where the Cascade Creek crosses the road near Thomas Cleghorn's farm in Pilkington, but, with a large family, moved to Kansas; Harriet married John Scully and their family all live in Berlin.

Jesse Penfold, son of Jesse Penfold and Jane Tribe, was born in Sussex, England, on December 30th, 1823, and with his parents and his mother's parents, came to the township of Dumfries in 1832. He was there married, in 1842, to Hannah Wismer, who was born May 30th, 1825, and died in April, 1903.

In the year 1844, Jesse Penfold took up the farm on which he has lived for sixty-two years, and he was the first settler on the west side of the river, between West Montrose and Elora, which is a distance of eight miles. His farm is known as Lot 64 in the German Company's Tract, west of the Grand River, in the township of Woolwich. Among those in this family there are: Susannah, married Thomas Batters, lives in Saskatchewan; Thomas married Margaret Annette Harvey and lives in Port Arthur; Elizabeth married Jacob B. Hewitt and is now in South Dakota; John married Emma Holzworth and lives on a farm a short distance north from his father's; Phoebe was married to Robert Peel Winfield, and is now living in Elora; Hannah was married to John Mitchell and lives on the 'George Lawrence' farm near the West Montrose school, and Jesse Penfold, jr., married Jessie (Janet) Darby, from Parry Sound, and lives on the old homestead with his father.
