    Death came very suddenly to Mr. Ernie Halls, wellknown Woodstock businessman last Friday afternoon. He was in the act of loading his baker truck with bread when he was seized with a heart attack and collapsed death ensuing within a few minutes. He had recently disposed of his business and Saturday was the last day that he intended to remain in possession.

    The deceased was born at Hepworth, 39 years ago, but spent his youth in Baden, where his father, the late J. K. Halls, carried on the bakery business. He enlisted during the war with the 110th Perth Battalion and saw much service overseas. Upon his return he went into the bakery business and for the past three years carried on a successful business in Woodstock.

    The deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Oddfellows and Forester Lodges. He was married to Miss Alberta Bier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Bier, of New Hamburg. Besides his sorrowing widow he leaves two daughters and one son to mourn his sudden death. The children are Miss Edna Halls, bookkeeper in the New Hamburg Hydro Electric Office and Hazel and Kenneth, at home. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters.

    The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon. Following the funeral service in Woodstock, the remains were brought here and interment took place in Hostetler's cemetery, Snyder's Road.

    Peter Bier, 92 Passes Suddenly

    A well known and esteemed resident of New Hamburg, Peter Bier, passed away suddenly at his home on William street on Monday morning. Mr. Bier reached the advanced age of 92 years and was one of the oldest citizens of the village. The late Mr. Bier was born in the township of South Easthope on Dec. 19, 1859, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Bier. Sixty-six years ago he married Catharine Green and operated a farm one mile east of New Hamburg until he retired in 1918 and moved to town. Mr. Bier was a devout member of the Reformed Mennonite Church. Surviving besides his wife are one son, Elmer, New Hamburg; one daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Alberta) Wolfe, New Hamburg; two brothers, Dr. E. Roy Bier, Winnipeg, and Fred Bier, Stratford; one sister Mrs. Chas. Hildebrand, New Hamburg, and six grandchildren.

    The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon from the late residence to the Hostetler Mennonite Church for a memorial service and interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Harvey Gampp conducted the funeral services.

    Mrs. Catherine Bier

    Mrs. Catherine Bier, widow of the late Peter Bier, passed away at her home here last Friday at the age of 88 years, following a lengthy illness. Deceased was born in North Easthope on Nov. 20th, 1865, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Green, and lived the greater part of her life in this community. She was a faithful member of the Hostetler Reformed Mennonite Church. Her husband, Peter Bier, whom she married at Philipsburg in January 1886, predeceased her on January 28th of this year.

    She is survived by one son, Elmer of New Hamburg; one daughter, Mrs. Leslie Wolfe, R.R. 2, Baden; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. One brother, Jacob, and three sisters, Mrs. Wesley Neff, Kitchener, Mrs. Dilman Wismer of Wilmot Township and Miss Sarah Green of North Easthope, all predeceased her.

    The funeral took place from her late residence on Sunday afternoon to Hostetler's Church for a memorial service and interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Harvey Gampp was in charge of the services.
