    Edward A. Amos, 73, of RR 3, Waterloo, died Tuesday al a heart attack while vacationing at his summer home on Chemong Lake, near Peterborough Born June 7, 1889, at Aberfoyle, a son of the late Mr. and Mr. William Amos, he lived in the Twin Cities for many years. He was manager of the Waterloo County House of Refuge for 21 years until his retirement in 1954 and was a life member of Waterloo Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Schmidt, whom he married June 18, 1918, In Elmira; four sons, Harry and William, both of RR 3, Waterloo, and Carl and Donald, both of Kitchener; one. daughter, Mrs. Alfred (Marjorie) Kavelman of Bridgeport, and 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters. The body la at the Ratz-Bechtel. Funeral Home where the funeral will be conducted Friday at. 2 p.m. by Rev. G. F. Barthel of Zion Evangelical United Brethern Church Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Elmira.

    Mrs.. Edward A. Amos

    Mrs. Edward A. Amos of 47 Hickson Drive died Friday at K-W Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 77. Mrs. Amos was the former Mary Edna. Schmidt, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Killian Schmidt. She was born in Floradale and lived in the Twin City area all her life. She was a member of Zion United Church and Brillian Rebekah Lodge. She was predeceased by her husband July 3, 1962, and by three brothers and four sisters. Surviving are four sons, Harry, Carl and. Donald, all of Kitchener and William of Waterloo; one daughter, Mrs. Alfred (Marjorie) Cavelman of Kitchener; 14 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where a Rebekah Lodge service will be held Sunday at 8 p.m. Rev. G. F. Barthel will conduct the funeral service Monday at 3 p.m. Burial Elmira.

    Obituary

    On Sunday evening there died at his home in Elmira one of the old residents of upper Woolwich in the person of Kilian Schmidt. Deceased was born in Hattenrode, Kurhessen, Germany, on the 17th of August 1840. In 18?? He came to America. In 1899 he was married to Anna Mohr who died, without issue, in the second year after their marriage. About two years later he was married a second time, namely to Catherine Grube, who with 8 children survives him, two children having died in infancy. The surviving children are: Annie (Mrs. Carl Weidenhammer); John, living near Shakespeare; Elisabeth in Brantford; Henry and Maggie on the old farm homestead; Lavina (Mrs. Weber,) New Hamburg; Willie, in Berlin; Mary, at home. Deceased lived six years in Wallace township and about 27 years in Upper Woolwich. Two years ago he bought a house in Elmira where he has been living since. He enjoyed good health until about a year ago from, which time gradually failed until he final summons came on Sunday evening. His remains will be laid to rest in Elmira Union Cemetery, this (Wednesday) afternoon.

    Notes:

    Hit by lightning last Wednesday afternoon was an old homesteader from Logan. Mr. Heinrich Grube, Sr., at Lot 27 in the 7th Concession was hit by lightning and died instantly.

    Mr. Grube was 80 years old and a strong man. He was working in the field shelling peas. His work included taking care of the horses gears. All of a sudden a thunder storm came close, and he left the field with two pitch forks over his shoulders. As he came close to the wire fence, lightning hit him and the fence, also splitting a cedar post right in half. Other family members left the field a little earlier. They saw lightning hit the fence. They wondered where the old man was, they couldn't see him, so they went back and found him on the ground dead by the fence. The lightning had torn his clothes down to his leather boots, his hair burnt.

    The dead man, Heinrich Grube, was born in the year 1814 in Wollmershausen, Hannover, Germany. He came to this country 48 years ago, and lived in the early pioneer times in New Hamburg as a shemaker. He later on quit the shoemaking business and moved to a farm by Tavistock, where he later on moved from again to the place where he died.

    The dead man, Heinrich Grube, who was the brother-in-law of Mr. Jacob Ritz in New Hamburg. He left behind his wife and 12 children, 2 sons and 10 daughters, which were very sadened by his death. The funeral was celebrated by the Rev. Grusner from New Dundee.
