    Notes:

    Tobias Yost, "was the earliest settler of the Yost family in Waterloo County. In 1831, he, in company with others, left his native home in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and moved to Canada. Early in May of the same year he arrived at Waterloo, Ontario, where he made his home for a short time with old Abraham Erb who assisted him in procuring a position to work at his trade, namely, that of shoemaking, which he followed for two or three years after his arrival in the country of his adoption. In 1832 he was married to Elizabeth, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Cressman) Erb. She was born January 28th, 1813, and died February 8th, 1868. Soon after their marriage they moved to Woolwich Township, about a mile east of St. Jacobs, Ontario, on the farm now possessed by John M. Weber where he followed farming several years. When pretty well advanced in years he entered into the mercantile business in partnership with Rev. Philip Winkler and transacted business in St. Jacobs for several years. Mr. Yost was born February 9th, 1805, and died November 6th, 1856, leaving a family"

    Daniel Erb, "the eldest son of Peter and Anna (Schãeffer) Erb, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, January 11th, 1784. He, in company with his brother Peter, Benjamin Eby, Joseph Schneider, and others, came to Canada in 1807 and settled a little north of Bridgeport, Ontario, on the plantation now owned by Dilman G. Moyer and Levi P. Snyder. He was married to Barbara, daughter of John and Anna (Schowalter) Cressman. She was born May 22nd, 1786, and died October 20th, 1831. He died June 21st, 1845. To them was born a family of nine children"

    Peter Erb, "son of Christian Erb, and grandson of Nicholaus Erb, was born in Warwick Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and resided near Mannheim of the said county. He was born in 1736 and married to Susannah Schäffer. They had a large family. The names of five of the sons were Daniel, Peter, John, Christian, and Jacob. The two eldest, Daniel and Peter, moved to Canada in 1807. The descendants of the others are to be found in Pennsylvania."

They with their family of seven children, moved to Canada in 1807, and settled in Waterloo County, near Freeport, Ontario, on the farm lately owned by Daniel B. Snyder. Here he died in 1818."
