    Notes:

    John emigrated from Germany in the early 1880's, bringing his family over later. John worked in many parts of Canada and USA, before settling down in Lethbridge area on July 2 1888. One of his first jobs was working for A.R.&I. Co., until he took up homesteading in 1890 in the West Lethbridge area. More commonly known in the early years as "In The Bend." Their first house on the homestead was destroyed by fire on New Years Day. The next house was built partly of stone. During the floods of the 1900's the neidig house was a safe haven to many a neighbor that lived along the river.

    On December26,1913 John and Dorothy Neidig celebrated their Golden Wedding Aniversary. John Passed away in may 1914, and his wife Dorothy remained in the Lethbridge area until her death in June 1931. Homestead land is now part of the University of lethbridge.

    Mrs. Dorothy Neidig

    The death occurred at the homestead near Lethbridge, Alberta, on June 3rd, of Mrs. Dorothy Neidig, aged 86 years, a resident of that city since the spring of 1888. Mrs. Neidig has been in excellent health, despite her advanced years, until a few weeks ago when she became ill and her demise was not unexpected.

    Born in Altershausen, Germany, in 1844, deceased married J. A. Neidig there, the family moving to the United States in 1868, settling at Baltimore, Maryland. After a seven years' residence in the United States, the moved to Toronto was made and after two years, the family again moved to Waterloo county, Ontario, where they resided until moving to Lethbridge in 1888.

    In Lethbridge the Neidig family soon became prominent in public affairs, the late J. A. Neidig, who passed away in 1914, organizing the Lethbridge branch of the Canadian Order of foresters in 1890.

    Ten children resulted from the marriage, eight of whom are still living. They are Barbara, who passed away last December; Andrew, in Business in Lethbridge, both born in Germany; august of San Jose, California; Mrs. Lena Oliver of Kimberley, B.C.; another daughter who died in infancy, al born in Biltmore. Mrs. Annie Dixon of Lethbridge, living on the homestead where Mrs. Neidig passed away; Fred of Lethbridge; Mrs. Mary Killan of San Diego, California, Edward, of Everett, Washington, and Ernest of Fernie, B.C.

    Several brothers still reside in Germany.

    Funeral service over the remains were held on Saturday afternoon in Christensen's Undertaking Parlors with interment in the family lot, Lethbridge cemetery, alongside her late husband. Rev. Mr. Arnsdorf of the Lutheran church officiated at the ceremony.

    The late Mrs. Neidig will be well remembered by some of the older people of the town, as the family resided here, for some years before leaving for the west in 1888.
