Death of Michael Schweitzer, of Wellesley Township, after a Lingering Illness.

The death of Michael Schweitzer, near Heidelberg, took place this morning after a lingering illness of six months at the age of 58 years, 2 months and 16 days. The funeral will take place on Thursday, August 24th from his late residence at one o'clock to the Heidelburg cemetery for interment and thence to the Evangelical church where the services will be conducted in English and German.

The late Michael Schweitzer was born in Ellice Township, Perth Co. and when a lad moved with his father to Mannheim, Waterloo county, where he was brought up. In 1883 he married Caroline Weber, daughter of the late Christian Weber, of Heidelberg. About twenty-three years they moved to Wellesley township near Heidelberg where he lived until his death. Four children were born to them Daniel, living on the old homestead; Mary Ann wife of John Boos near Sebringville, and John and Aaron at home. He was quiet and unassuming in manners and was noted for his strict integrity. He was a stauch Reformer in politics and a devoted and consistent member of the Evangelical church. The bereft widow and children will have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.

    Notes:

Christian Weber," son of Christian and Catherine (Bruck) Weber, was born in the village of Dietrichhingen, district of Zweibruecken, Rhein Bayren, Germany, March 4th, 1810. When in his nineteenth year he bid adieu to his fatherland and emigrated to America. After arriving at New York in safety he was obliged to work for some time in order to raise sufficient means to defray his expenses across the ocean. In a few years he had, by diligent labor, saved so much from his earnings that he was able to pay the expenses of bringing his parents and others of the family to this country. Some time during the year 1833 or 1834 he, together with his parents and others, moved to Canada and settled near Wilmot Centre, Waterloo County, Ontario, where Mr Weber was married to Elizabeth Schmaus who was born June 29th, 1818, and died June 3rd, 1886. Here they resided about twenty years, then he disposed of his farm and purchased that of Moses Weaver a little east of Heidelberg where they resided until their deaths. He died March 22nd, 1886. Mr. Weber was a man of noble character, industrious and economical. Modesty, coolness and deliberation were some of his characteristics. His descendants are not so much distinguished for being great men as for the uniform private worth of all of them, not intending to convey the idea that they are less able or competent to fill public positions than others but that a certain feature of character impells them always to attend to their own business first. None of them are and never have been ambitious for public citizenship. Mr. and Mrs. Weber were blessed with a family of eight children"
