Married on Feb. 12, 1908, to Lucinda Martin, who survives. Also surviving are 5 children (Naomi-Mrs. Joseph Good, Lorne, Ruth-Mrs. Moses Good, Willard, and Mahlon), 24 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Member of the St. Jacobs Church, where funeral services were held Sept. 9 in charge of Raymond L. Kramer, assisted by J. B. Martin; interment in Erb Street Cemetery

    Notes:

    Mrs. Ephraim S. Shantz of RR 1, Waterloo, died at Bethesda Nursing Home, Vineland, May 16 following a lengthy illness. She was 82.

    Born in Woolwich Township, the former Lucinda Martin, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Martin.

    She was a member of St. Jacobs Mennonite Church.

    Mrs. Shantz was predeceased by her husband, a son, three brothers and a sister.

    She is survived by two sons, Lorne of Elmira and Mahlon of Burlington, two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Naomi) Good of New Dundee and Mrs. Moses (Ruth) Good of New Hamburg; two brothers, Angus Martin of Waterloo and Rufus Martin of St. Jacobs, 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

    The body was at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira, until May 18, when removal was made to St. Jacobs Mennonite Church for service, with Bishop J.B. Martin and Rev. Gerald Good officiating. Burial was at Erb Street Mennonite cemetery, Waterloo.

    Aaron Shantz, "the second son, was born March 3rd, 1851. On February 9th, 1874, he was married to Leah, daughter of Benjamin and Magdalena (Shantz) Snyder. She was born November 27th, 1850. After their marriage they moved on the farm they still occupy, the old 'Christian Martin Farm', about one-half mile from the Martin Mennonite Meeting House. They have a family of four children"

    Shantz - Aaron, was born 3 miles north of Waterloo, March 3, 1851; died Sept. 28. 1943; aged 92 y. 6 m. 25 d. He was married to Leah Snider who predeceased him 2 years ago. Surviving are 2 sons, Herbert and Ephraim, and a daughter, Sabina (Mrs. Urias Snider), all of Waterloo. One daughter, Lucina, died a little over 7 years ago. Nine grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren also survive. Bro. Shantz in his early years after his conversion united with the Mennonite Church and lived a faithful devoted Christian life until the Lord called him home. He attended church services as long as his strength enabled him. Funeral services were conducted by Bro. J. B. Martin at the Erb Street Mennonite Church, Waterloo, Ont.

    Shantz.--Leah Shantz (nee Snider), beloved wife of Aaron Shantz, was born near Waterloo, Ont., Nov. 27, 1849; died June 20, 1941; aged 91 y. 6 m. 24 d. She is survived by her aged husband, 2 sons (Herbert and Ephraim of near Waterloo), 1 daughter (Mrs. Urias Snyder of Waterloo), 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. One daughter, Lucina, predeceased her a little over five years ago. She was converted in her early youth and united with the Mennonite Church, remaining a faithful member until her death. She was bedfast over five years. Funeral Services were held at Erb Street Mennonite Church, Waterloo, Ont., in charge of Bros. Jonas Snider and J. B. Martin. Text: II Cor. 4: 10.

    Martin.-Simeon Martin, aged 76 y. 9 m. 24 d., who was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., died following a lengthy illness. He was married to Rebecca Bauman who preceded him in death nearly 5 months. Surviving are 2 daughters (Mrs. Ephraim Shantz of Waterloo, with whom he resided the last 14 months; and Louida, Mrs. Ervine Weber, Blair), 3 sons (Nelson, East Palestine, Ohio; Angus, Elmira, Ont.; Rufus, St. Jacobs, Ont.), 2 sisters (Mrs. D. B. Shantz, Buffalo, N. Y.; Mrs. Allan Shantz, Waterloo, Ont.), 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, 3 sons and 1 daughter died in infancy. He was a member of the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church, at which place the funeral was held by Brethren Oliver D. Snider and Roy S. Koch.

    Martin - Rebecca, daughter of Eli and Rebecca Bauman, was born in the Jerusalem section, Ontario, Canada, June 26, 1863; died at the home of her daughter Lucinda near Waterloo, Ont., June 20, 1938; aged 75 y. 24 d. Nov. 21, 1882, she was united in marriage to Simeon Martin who with 2 daughters (Lucinda, wife of Ephraim Shantz, near Waterloo, with whom she resided, and Louida, wife of Irvin Weber of Blair), and 3 sons (Nelson of East Palestine, Ohio; Angus of near Elmira, and Rufus of St. Jacobs), remain to mourn the loss of a devoted and loving mother; also 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In early youth she gave her heart to the Lord and united with the Mennonite Church of which she was a faithful member to the end. Three sons (Amos, Alexander, and Eli), and a daughter (Hannah) preceded her in death. Funeral services were conducted at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church with Bros. Roy Koch and Oliver D. Snider in charge. Interment in Martin's Cemetery.

    SHANTZ - Moses Shantz was born on the 22nd of August 1819, about three miles north of Waterloo, Ont. On the 18th of March, 1819* he was married to the youngest daughter of the late Bro. Jacob C. Snyder, of Waterloo. He was a member of the Mennonite church since his youth. Deceased was afflicted for about 6 years, and suffered much pain, which however was patiently borne through all the weary years, until his final release on the 17th of January 1897, at the ripe old age of 77 years, 4 months and 26 days. He leaves a sorrowing wife, six sons and six daughters, also thirty-six grandchildren to mourn the loss of a kind companion and father. His was the first death out of this large family. The funeral was held on the 20th from his late residence. Interment at Martin's M.H., where many relatives and friends assembled to pay their last tribute of love and respect to one who had been so dearly loved and highly esteemed in life.     Shantz. - Susannah Snider, wife of the late Moses Shantz, was born in Waterloo, Ont., April 4, 1830; died May 14, 1916; aged 86 y. 1 m. 10 d. The deceased was married to Moses Shantz Mar. 18, 1849, who preceded her 19 years ago. This union was blessed with a family of 12 children, of whom 11 are still living. There are 50 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren of whom nearly all are living. She was the last of the Snider family. Her brothers and sisters have all preceded her. By her passing away, the family loses a kind and patient mother, the church a consistent member, and the fruits of her exemplary and devoted Christian life, will never be forgotten. Funeral services on May 17, conducted at the house by Bro. Noah Stauffer, and at the Waterloo Mennonite Church by Bro. Stauffer and Noah Hunsberger, from Job 5: 26. Burial at the Martin Cemetery.

    Bauman.-In Waterloo, Co., Ont., Mrs. Eli Bauman, aged 90 y. 2 m. 27 d., her beloved companion preceding her four years ago. To this union were born 12 children (8 surviving), 69 grandchildren (51 surviving), 144 great-grandchildren (126 surviving), 2 great-great-grandchildren (both surviving).This family is spread all over Canada and the United States. Both were faithful members in the old order Mennonite Church. May we as their family seek to spread the name of Jesus wherever we are. One of the Grandchildren.
