Death of Mr. Jacob S. Weaver - this gentleman, so long and favorably known to all classes of the people of this section, died at the Commercial Hotel, of which he was proprietor, on Saturday afternoon last. The deceased gentleman was very much respected by all who knew him. Referring to his death the Berlin News writes as follows: - At half past five o'clock on Saturday evening Jacob S. weaver breathed his last, and when the fact became known a deep feeling of sadness and grief was manifested by the people generally, for very few of the citizens of this Town commended more general respect and esteem than Mr. Weaver. It is doubtful if he had a single enemy, so quietly and unostentatiously did he pass through life. Mr. Weaver was born on the old Weaver farm near Heidelberg, but when a mere child his parents moved to Dundas where they carried on an extensive hotel business for many years, being patronize by most all the Waterloo people who in those days of old - when the Great Western Railway or Grand Trunk had no existence - teamed their flour to that place. The writer of this has personal recollections of the great crowds of farmers and teamsters from this locality who were accustomed to steps at the Red Lion Hotel. After Jacob grew up to man's estate he came to this county and has been connected with the hotel business ever since. He has always kept a house specially toted for its quiet and home likeness, few places being so universally known in this respect. The deceased has been quite successful in accumulating property, and leaves family in very good circumstances. His health has been failing for the last year or two and during the past summer he spent some time at the sea shore, the Clinton Springs, and other health resorts, but apparently without much success. His affection was what is known as Bright's disease of the Kidneys. A few weeks ago he too cold and inflammation of the lungs, from which he gradually sank till Saturday evening when the spirit took its departure. Deceased has been a regular attendant at the Presbyterian Church, and his death was peaceful and without a murmur. He leaves a widow and two estimable daughters who have the general sympathy of the entire community for their great loss.

The funeral of the late Mr. Weaver was very largely attended, many having come from Galt, Preston, Hespeler, Waterloo, St. Jacobs, Elmira and other places. The pall bearers were Messrs. A. Tyson, B. H. Unger, H. Kranz, A. Roy, J.A. Mackie and L.D. Bowman. The Rev. Messrs. Tait and Von Parch conducted the religious services.
