    License Inspector Winterhalt Dead at Kitchener

    License Inspector Joseph Winterhalt died suddenly at his home in Kitchener on Wednesday morning. For a number of years he conducted a cigar business in Kitchener and also spent many years on the road as a traveller. When the O. T. A. came into effect be was appointed license inspector and has held the position since 1916. During the winter he was taken seriously, ill, following a slight accident. He was confined to his home for a number of weeks, but recovered sufficiently to resume his duties. He is survived by his widow and several children. He was about 65 years of age.

    County License Inspector Appointed

    Joseph Winterhalt of This City the Man.

    WAS A SUCCESSFUL CIGAR MANUFACTURER

    After the new Prohibition Act goes into effect - 16 Sept. there will be but one license inspector in Waterloo County.

    Both Mr. F. Walter, the present inspector for North Waterloo. and Mr. Knowles, inspector for South Waterloo, will retire.

    The Ontario License Commission already has appointed a county license inspector to succeed them. The lucky applicant is Mr. Joseph Winterhalt of this city. It is understood that the salary attached at least is $1200 per annum and that he will assume the duties of the new position on Monday. 18th September.

    Mr. Winterhalt is a cigar manufacturer who came to this city twenty-five years ago or more from Hespeler and has been a successful business man.

    He is possessed of a genial disposition, is conseientious and honorable in all his dealings. He stands well among his fellow-citizens and for many years represented them in the city council. His appointment generally will be well-received throughout the County.

    MR. JOSEPH WINTERHALT

    The funeral of Mr. Joseph Winterhalt, who passed away suddenly at his home on Young street on May 27th was held on Saturday.

    Mr. Winterhalt was born in Preston in September 1853, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Winterhalt. He received his early education in Preston and later moved to this city where he engaged in the cigar business in 1890 which he relinquished in 1916 when appointed License Inspector. He was married in 1876 at Waterloo to Miss Mary Heyman who survives him. Three children, Mrs. Frank Buchheit of Buffalo, Joseph R. and John F. of this city are also left to mourn his loss.

    Mr. Winterhalt was a devout member of St. Mary's Church and was connected with the various societies of the Church including the St. Boniface Society and the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the city council for a number of years. Mr. Winterhalt was a man of sterling qualities and kindly disposition. Devoted to home and to duty he was the type of citizen whose passing will be deeply regretted throughout the community. In addition to his bereaved widow and children he leaves two brothers, George of Preston and Henry of this city.
