Notes:

A sad death occurred here last Sunday morning, when Mr. Carl Herz departed this life after having been the victim of paralytic stroke, which resulted in a rapid decline of his strength. Deceased came to Elmira about 3 years ago from Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, leaving his family in Europe until such time that his means admitted of bringing them over the ocean. He found employment in the local furniture factories where he worked industriously and saved his earnings, contributing them to the expense of passage for his wife and children who arrived here on later occasions. Two grown-up sons also left the Fatherland to join the family and since last fall the entire family have lived together in a house on Queen St. which they had purchased. After having thus assembled his loved ones, the departed was not permitted to long enjoy usual robust health having during the last year desist from work fully nine months. He sank gradually until it became apparent that he would not be long a pilgrim on this earth. He was 58 years 9 months. His earthly remains were interred in the Elmira Union Cemetery. Rev. Graupner of St. Paul's Lutheran Church which the deceased and family had joined conducted the ceremonies. The bereaved have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their affliction.

MRS. SOPHIE HERZ

A resident of Waterloo for 26 years, Mrs. Sophie Herz died at the Eix Private Hospital, Waterloo, this morning after an illness of about three years. Mrs. Herz was born in Germany and came to Canada in 1907. She was 80 years of age. Her husband predeceased her 33 years ago.

She is survived by four sons, Max, Amandus and Reinhold Herz of Waterloo and Friedo of Detroit and by three daughters, Mrs. Eldyon Hymmen, Kitchener, Mrs. Stephen Pedley, Toronto, and Mrs. Victor Moyer, Waterloo. Sixteen grandchildren also survive.

The remains are resting at the Letter and Dreisinger Funeral Home where a short service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, followed by service at the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer at 2:30. Interment will take place in Union Cemetery, Elmira. The services will be conducted by Rev. Albert Orzen, vacancy pastor of the Waterloo Church.
