He was twice married, his first wife also a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Panabaker. Nine years ago, he retired from the farm on which he was born and made his home with his son, Walter. A man of quiet habits, he took no part in municipal life. He was a good neighbour and respected by all who knew him. Niles Peter Holm, "was born March 16th, 1811. In his younger years he was converted and joined the church of his choice, the River Brethren, which body he served faithfully until his death. When about thirty-five years of age he was ordained as a minister of the River Brethren denomination. He was an active worker in the Lord's vineyard and was well received by all classes of people who used to assemble at his appointed place of worship. He not only had the unlimited confidence of the members of his own congregation but his friends and admirers were many amongst those of other denominations and such that had no connections with any of the religious bodies of our country. It would not be saying too much to make the assertion that this servant of God died without a single enemy. He resided a little east of Hespeler where he died December 13th, 1880. He was married to Susannah Cober who was born June 4th, 1813, and died a few years ago. She proved to be a noble helpmate unto her husband in assisting him in performing the many duties connected with his pastoral callings. She was a noble woman, a kind and sympathetic neighbor, and a true follower of her Master. Her end was peace. The winged arrow of death bore her soul away to the spiritual mansions beyond the skies. They had a family of eleven children, of whom only four were left to mourn the loss of their dear parents. Their names are as follows:"

    HOLM, SUSANNA (Nee Cober)

Death of a Very Old Resident

One by one, those who first settled in Puslinch are going. Mrs. Neil Holm settled with her late husband, who died some years ago, on the farm where she died on Thursday, November 19, 1891. She had just entered her 79th year. In 1835, she came from the township of Vaughan, county of York, where she was born and being a sister of the late Jacob Cober and Nicholas Cober, settled at the same time almost opposite the farm of Jacob Cober, on which his sons at present reside. Mrs. Holm was one of those, whose living made the world the brighter seem. Her daily life shone with the brightness of Christianity. All who knew her fully respected the high moral tone of her character. A noble woman was Mrs. Holm, true to herself and all the world. She died as she lived. She leaves a son, Daniel Holm of Puslinch and a daughter. Interment took place on Sunday to the brick church burying ground.

-The brick church burying ground refers to the Brethren in Christ Cemetery at the church on the Lake Rd.

One by one the links that connect the early settlement of this country and the present one are being broken. Seventy-four years ago Mrs. Cornelius Panabaker of Puslinch was born on her father's farm on Preston Road, which is still owned and occupied by her nephew, Levi Witmer. In 1839, in company with her late husband, who preceded her sixteen years, she settled on the farm where she died, which was then in the wild woods of Canada. She was a partaker of all the joys and sorrows of pioneer life. Many were the interesting stories told by her about the early settlement of the township and being possessed of a bright and cheerful disposition, the hardships of life in these days were made to seem easier to her. She was a true Christian and her many virtues too well known to need recital here. She died in Puslinch on November 28, 1891, at the age of 74 years. She leaves two sons, Elias and Samuel and one daughter, Mrs. Daniel Holm, all of Puslinch. The funeral on Monday was very largely attended, interment taking place at Warner's burying ground. Elias Witmer of Hespeler is her brother.

THE LATE MRS. PANABAKER. One by one the links that connect the early settlement of this country and the present one are being broken. Seventy-four years ago the late Mrs. Cornelius Panabaker of Puslinch, was born on her father's farm on Preston road, which is still owned and occupied by her nephew, Mr. Levi Witmer. In 1839 in company with her late husband, who preceded her 16 years, she settled on the farm she died on, which was then in the wild woods of Canada. She was a partaker of all the joys and sorrows of pioneer life. Many were the interesting stories told by her about the carly settlement of the township, and being possessed of a bright and cheerful disposition the hardships of life in these days made to seem easier to her. She was a true Christian and her many virtues are well known to need recital here. She leaves two sons, Elias and, Samuel, and one daughter, Mrs. Daniel Holm, all of Puslinch, The funeral on Monday Was very largely attended, the interment taking place at Warner's burying ground. Mr. Elias Witmer, of Hespeler, is her brother,

Nicholaus Cober, "from whom all the Cobers in this country are descendants, was born in Pennsylvania, U. S., November 24th, 1763. In 1796 he was married to Eva Fisher who was born June 27th, 1777. In April, 1800, they, with their two children and others, moved to Canada and settled in Vaughan Township, York County, Ontario, about twelve miles north of Toronto. During the first years of their Canadian life they had to contend with numerous hardships and self-denials. In 1810 they had already cleared some eighty acres of their large farm and had erected a comfortable log dwelling and log barn thereon. In course of time the first buildings were replaced by more expensive residences. (Old Mr. Cober must have seen quite a difference in the country from 1800, when it was all forest, until 1840 when York was the Banner County and Toronto the capital of Canada). Mr. and Mrs. Cober raised a family of eleven children"
