    Notes:

    Shantz. - Elizabeth Histand, wife of Menno Schantz, was born in Oxford Co., Ont., Oct. 6, 1846; passed to her reward at Waterloo, Ont., Jan. 3, 1923, aged 76 y. 2 m. 28 d. On Dec. 30, 1873, she was united in marriage to Menno Schantz, who predeceased her in 1911. To this union were born 4 children, 2, Harry and Catherine, having preceded their parents to the spirit world, and 2, Amanda and Ellen, with an aged sister, Mrs. M. Unger, Preston, Ont., remain to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother and sister. The funeral was held on Jan. 5, 1923, from her late residence and the Erb St. Mennonite Church. Interment in the Schantz cemetery, north of Baden. Services were conducted by S. Schrader and Oscar Burkholder. Text, Prov. 3: 6. Sister Schantz was a member of the Mennonite Church for many years and departed this life strong in the faith of her Master.

    John Histand, "was born is Chester County, Pennsylvania, June 6th, 1811. He came to Canada with his brother Abraham before he was married. On September 29th, 1833, he was married to Catharine L. Bechtel. She was born September 27th, 1807, and died January 7th, 1884. Some time after their marriage they moved to the "Dickie Settlement", east of Roseville, where they resided for some time, then they moved on the farm now in possession of their son, John B. Histand, where they both died. His death took place on August 15th, 1892. To them were born five children"

She was a cousin to his first wife and was born May 23rd, 1782, and died June 21st, 1868. To him and his first wife were born nine children"

    George B. Bechtel "was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, near Pottstown, May 24th, 1777. On November 16th, he was married to Esther Livergood. They resided on his father's old place near Pottstown, Pennsylvania, where she died March 2nd, 1814, leaving a family of four children, namely: V Catharine, V Levi, V George L., and V Isaiah L.. After the decease of his first wife he was married to Maria, daughter of Jacob and Mary (Tyson) Shoemaker, November 25th, 1817. She was born January 21st, 1793, and died in Waterloo County, Ontario, February 6th, 1840. They moved to Canada in 1829, and resided for two years on the farm now possessed by Joseph M. Brubacher, about two miles north of the town of Waterloo. From here they moved on the farm now possessed by Dilman S. Shantz. The second union was blessed with six children, namely: V Noah, V Rudolph, V Abigail, V Leah, V Esther, and V Isabella."

    David Histand, "was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, August 20th, 1755. He was raised on the farm and followed the agricultural life all his days. When a young man he used to go to Montgomery County to attend places of worship (where his parents worshipped while residing in Montgomery County) and visit friends and relatives. During these visits he formed an acquaintance with Elizabeth Bechtel who was raised near Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She was a daughter of old Martin Bechtel. To her he was married in 1783. Soon after their marriage they took possession of his father's beautiful farm located in the north-eastern part of Chester County, Pennsylvania, not far from the Schuylkill River. Here they raised a family of ten children"
