    Allen S. of 441 Fountain Street South Cambridge on Friday November 29th at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of Bertha Thomas. Dear father of Carl and his wife Bonnie, Robert and Deanna all of Cambridge and Margaret and her husband Bernard Youlton of Cleveland, Ohio. Lovingly remembered by six grandchildren. John, Bruce, Kevin Gmelin, Mark, Grand, Kirk Youlton and one sister Georgina McGuiness of Meaford. Predeceased by two daughters Janet and Kathy. Mr. Gmelin was born in Preston and lived here all his life. He was the founder of Gmelin Flowers and Gifts Ltd. a Member of the Preston-Hespler Rotary Club of Cambridge and St. Peter Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenstown Road Cambridge Saturday 7-9 Sunday 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral will be conducted at St. Peter's Lutheran Church King Street Cambridge Monday December 2nd 1991 at 2 pm. Interment at Preston Cemetery.

    Carl Frederic Gmelin

    Suffering a paralytic stroke on Thursday of last week, Carl Frederic Gmelin, a life-long resident of Preston, passed away on Saturday night at his home 357 Fountain street. The late Carl Gremlin was born in Preston and was in his 69th year. For over 50 years he was a faithful employee at Clare Bros. foundry and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He was also affiliated with the Canadian Order of Foresters. A lover of flowers, deceased won many prizes with his garden and exhibits and in his earlier years was interested in musical circles, taking an active interest in the bands of those days. He was also interested in sports and up to several years ago was an ardent curler. The surviving relatives are, his wife (Clara Boos); two daughters, Mrs. L. Harlock and Mrs. Herbert Johnston, of Preston; one son, Allan, of Preston; and one sister, Mrs. A. E. Ratz, also of Preston.

    Mrs. Charles Gmelin

    One of Preston's well known older residents, Clara Boos, wife of the late Charles Frederick Gmelin, died at the Kintchener-Waterloo hospital at 11 o'clock yesterday morning. In her 73rd year the deceased had been ailing for the past three months. Born in Preston, the late Mrs. Gmelin, with the exception of several years during her childhood, when she lived in Galt, had been a lifelong resident of the municipality and formed a large circle of freinds locally. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and also of the Ladies Aid of that church. Her husband predeceased her nearly five years ago; a brother Arthur Boos of Hespeler predeceased her two years ago; a sister Mrs. Henry Herman of Chicago, predeceased her 10 years ago and a sister Mrs. Nelson Wiscmer, predeceased her a week ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Danbury of Preston, and Mrs. Herbert Johnston of Toronto; one son, Allan Stuart Gmelin of Preston; one brother, George Boos of Elbow, Sask. Five grandchildren also survive. The late Mrs. Gmelin is resting at the Stager-Pass funeral home, from where the funeral will be held on Sunday, September 10, at 2: 30 p.m. Interment in the Preston cemetery.

    PIONEER RESIDENT DIES AFTER ILLNESS

    Mrs. Elizabeth Gmelin Came To Canada As Child From Alsace Lorraine

    Death removed an old pioneer resident of this district in the person of Mrs. Elisabeth Gmelin, relict of the late John Gmelin, who passed away at 11 o'clock, last evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. E. Ratz, Fountain street. The deceased who was in her 84th year was born of French parents in Detweiler, Alsace-Lorraine, France, in 1843. Two years later her family moved to Canada and settled on a farm sear Kossuth at a time when Preston was but a small village. The late Mrs. Gmelin was confirmed as a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church by Rev. Emmanuel Wurster, founder of the church here and great grandfather of the late town clerk Geo. Wurster. In 1870 she became the bride of John Gmelin of Preston and has resided here ever since. Her husband predeceased her thirty-nine years ago. The late Mrs. Gmelin was much loved and respected by all who knew her and during her long life had enjoyed good health until within seven months of her death. Those who remain to Mourn her loss include two sisters, Mrs. (Rev.) A. R. Schultz, of Tonowanda, New York and Mrs. Katherine Richert, of Detroit, also one daughter, Mrs. A. R. Ratz, Fountain street, and one son Carl Gmelin, Fountain street, as well as numerous grandchildren. A second daughter. Mrs. Smith of Preston, predeceased her mother by several years. The funeral will be held at 2: 30 o' clock, Saturday afternoon, from the home of her son-in-law and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Ratz, 138 Fountain street, interment to be in the Preston cemetery. Rev. W. H. Knauff of St. Peter's Lutheran church, will conduct both services.
