    George Dear Passes

    Following an illness of two years, George Dear, a well-known Ayr resident, passed away in K-W Hospital on Sunday in his 82nd year. A native of Sussex, England, he came to Canada in 1906, where he first settled in the Kingston area as a farm employee. In 1908 he moved to Ayr, where he was employed until about 25 years ago when the family moved to Galt. Mr. and Mrs. Dear returned to this village upon his retirement 10 years ago. The late Mr. Dear possessed a proud military record in both the British and Canadian armies. As a member of the Royal Artillery, he fought in both the South African War and Boxer Rebellion in China. When World War I broke out, Mr. Dear went to France in the C.E.F. with the 75th Battalion, to round out his distinguished army career. He was a member of Christ Church here, and also of the Canadian Order of Foresters. Surviving, besides his wife, also a native of Sussex, are three sons, Roy of Oshawa, Frank of Brantford and Wilfred (Bob) of Dunnville; and two daughters, Mrs. Henry Ford (Ethel) of Galt and Mrs. Douglas Johnston (Gertrude) of Troy.

    The Funeral

    Funeral service was held at Christ Church, Ayr, on Tuesday, conducted by Rev. J. T. M. Swan. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery, The pallbearers were: Harold Cornford, Edward Freer, Henry Griffin, Albert Upton, William. House and Clifford Challenger.

    Mrs. George Dear Passes

    Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Herbert F. Bull at Christ Church on Saturday for Mrs. George Dear, who passed away suddenly in Brantford on Thursday in her 83rd year. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Harold Cornford of Ayr was a pallbearer, along with nephews and grandsons. The former Gertrude Carpenter, she was born in Brighton, England, and came to Canada with the family many years ago. She was married in Ayr to George Dear, who predeceased her five years ago. They resided here for many years while her husband was employed in Watson's. They subsequently moved to Galt, returning to Ayr following Mr. Dear's retirement. Mrs. Dear went to Brantford after the death of her husband. While in Ayr Mrs. Dear was an active member of Christ Church and its women's organization. Surviving are three sons and two daughters: Wilfred of Toronto, Frank of Brantford, Roy of Galt, Mrs. Douglas (Gertrude) Johnston of Lynden and M. Henry (Ethel) Ford of Galt. Several grandchildren also survive.

    The household of Mr. Geo. Dear, Bruce-st., was bereaved Saturday morning by the death of his mother, who had been ill for some time. The deceased, who was in her 60th year, was born in Brighton, Sussex, England, and came to Canada a little over two years ago. Her maiden name was Sarah Edwards. She married Frederick William Dear in 1872, her husband predeceased her nine years. The family consists of four sons and two daughters: They are William in England; James in the East Indies; George and Thomas in Ayr; Harriet in Brighton and Mary in London, Eng. Mrs. Dear was a member of the Church of England and a devout Christian. The funeral, which took place on Monday afternoon, was conducted by Rev. Mr. James, interment being made in the Ayr cemetery. The pallbearers were George and Thomas Dray, C. Carpenter, John Carpenter, B. Styles and J. C. Cropp.
