    BLACK, WILLIAM JOSEPH

    At his residence, Cooper St. in Hespeler, on Tuesday afternoon, August 3, 1926, after an illness extending over several months. He was born in Puslinch Township 54 years ago, the son of the late Robert Black. For many years, he was a thresher in this neighbourhood, going five or six years ago to the Parry Sound district, where he carried on a sawmill business at Deer Lake. He returned to Hespeler last fall, not in the best health, having suffered a paralytic stroke. Survived by his wife and six children: Florence (Mrs. W. Cosgrove) of Burlington; Gordon of Guelph; Ivy (Mrs. John Ruttan) of Parry Sound; Jean, Eileen, Verley and Calvin, at home; six grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. James Currie. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon. Interment Hespeler Cemetery.

    A resident of Hespeler for the past fifty-five years, at her residence on Black St. , on Wednesday morning, June 18, 1958, in her 80th year. She was born near Morriston, daughter of the late Joseph Bowman and Catharine Fetter. She was a member of the Christian Brethren Church in Guelph. Predeceased by her husband, William Joseph Black. Surviving are one son, Calvin of Hespeler; four daughters, Ivy (Mrs. John Ruttan) of Parry Sound; Jean (Mrs. Magnus Christenson) of Kitchener; Eileen (Mrs. Alex Stuart) of R. R. #6, Guelph; Verle (Mrs. Edward Arno) of Fort Erie; twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-nine greatgrandchildren; two brothers, William Bowman of Preston; John Bowman of London; three sisters, Carrie (Mrs. Henry Leach) of Oshawa; Mrs. Emma Johnson of River Road, Hespeler; and Ollie (Mrs. Harry Black) of Guelph. Service at the Stager Funeral Home, Galt St. in Hespeler on Sat. , Jun. 21 at 2, conducted by James Ritchie and Wilfrid Roughley of the Christian Brethren Church, Guelph.     BLACK, ROBERT

    Suddenly, a very highly esteemed and well known citizen, the night of October 10, 1910, at 8, aged 68. He was working in the garden at 4 o'clock and shortly afterwards, went into the house and complained that he was not feeling well. Dr. Campbell was hastily summoned and worked with the patient from then until 8 but despite all that medical science could do, he died of apoplexy. He was a well known farmer, having lived in the town limits for the past fifteen years. He is survived by a wife, three sons and a daughter: Wesley of Berlin; David of Toronto; William of Hespeler; and Mrs. James Curry of Hespeler. The funeral took place on Friday.

    At his home at 82 Lowell St. in Hespeler, on Tuesday evening at 9, August 10, 1915, in his 74th year. The funeral took place on Thurs, Aug. 12th at 2 from his residence to the Hespeler Cemetery. Surviving are his widow and children: Mrs. W. Black of Hespeler; Mrs. H. Fetter of Toronto; Mrs. Ed Cutting of Hespeler; Mrs. H. Cutting of Hamilton; Mrs. H. Leach of Guelph; Mrs. H. Black of Guelph; Mrs. G. MacDonald of Rochester; Mrs. J. Jones of Guelph; J. Bowman of Berlin; W. Bowman of Hespeler; A. Bowman of Galt; and E. Bowman of Hespeler. The pallbearers were his four sons, John, William, Albert and Irwin; Wellington Cutting and Frank McConnel. Mr. Bowman had been a resident of the city only since last spring, when he came here from his farm near Freelton.

They made their way to Waterloo Twp. by 1826, settling on lot 13, concession 1 in Beasley's Lower Block (Fisher Mills). In 1830 they settled on lot 33, front concession 8, Puslinch Twp.

    Funeral of Joseph Bowman.

    The funeral of the late Joseph Bowman, whose death occurred on Tuesday evening last, took place Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence to the Hespeler cemetery where interment was made. Besides a widow, the following sons and daughters are left to mourn his loss: Mrs. W. Black of Hespeler, Mrs. H. Fector of Toronto, Mrs. E. Cutting of Hespeler, Mrs. H. Cutting of Hamilton, Mrs. H. Leach of Guelph, Mrs. H. Block of Guelph, Mrs. G. Mcdonald of Rochester, Mrs. J. Jones of Guelph, Mr. J. Bowman of Berlin, Mr. W. Bowman of Hespeler, Mr. A. Bowman of Galt, and Mr. E. Bowman of Hespeler. The pall bearers were four sons, John William, Albert and Irwin and Mr. Wellington Cutting and Frank McConnel.

    On Saturday, December 29, 1928, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cutting of Waterloo Township, in her 84th year. She had been a resident of Hespeler for about fifteen years, coming here from Galt. Her husband, Joseph Bowman predeceased her by some thirteen years. She was born in Germany. Survived by seven daughters: Mrs. J. Wheeler of Toronto; Mrs. Hugh Johnston of Brantford; Mrs. Henry Leach of Oshawa; Mrs. Harry Black of Guelph; Mrs. Gordon McDonnell of Windsor; Mrs. Ed Cutting of Waterloo Township; and Mrs. W. Black of Hespeler; three sons, John Bowman of London; William and Albert Bowman of Hespeler; fifty-eight grandchildren, seventy great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. The funeral was held on Monday afternoon from the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. Black to the Hespeler Cemetery, with Rev. H. L. Merner conducting the service. Pallbearers: Gordon Black of Guelph; Leslie Cutting of Hespeler; Nelson Cutting of Brantford; Gordon and Wellington Cutting of Glen Christie; and Laverne Jones of Guelph.

    Sometimes spelled FETTER.

    Another old resident of Puslinch has passed away in the person of Mrs. Vetter, relict of Henry Vetter, whose demise occurred on Saturday, 10th July 1897, at the residence of her son-in-law, Joseph Bowman. Mrs. Vetter was 84 years of age and she leaves twenty-eight grandchildren and seventeen greatgrandchildren to mourn her death. The funeral took place on Monday to the Crown Cemetery and was very largely attended.
