    SCHMIDT, Mary Ann Passed away peacefully at her residence at People Care, Stratford, on Thursday, September 1, 2011. Mary Ann was born 91 years ago in Mornington Township and was the daughter of the late Peter S. Spenler and Mattie Zehr. Beloved wife of the late Lorne Schmidt. Loving Mother of Anna Mae Kuepfer (Ivan) of Millbank, Ralph Schmidt (Kathryn) of RR Millbank, Reta Steckly of Castorland N.Y., Ronald Schmidt (Elizabet) of RR Brunner, Lloyd Schmidt (Sharon) of Parry Sound, Sharon Gerber (Joe) of Millbank and David Schmidt (Norma) of New Hamburg. Survived by her brothers Jacob Spenler of Sarnia, and John Spenler of Brunner and her sister Madeliene Gerber of Brunner. Dear sister-in-law to Ella Mae Schmidt and Katie Erb. Loving grandmother of 40 grandchildren and 46 great- grandchildren. Predeceased by her grandchildren Peter Steckly and Brian Kuepfer, her sisters Leah, Emma, Elizabeth, Sarah and Amanda and sisters-in-law Gladys, Dorothy and Erma Spenler and a brother-in-law Norman Gerber. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 7 Spencer Street, Milverton, ON on Saturday (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Faith Mennonite Church (Kingwood) at 2 p.m..     Spenler. - Peter, son of Pre. Peter and Elizabeth (Steinman) Spenler, was born in Perth Co., Ont., Jan. 8, 1887; died at his home at Poole, Ont., Oct. 24, 1935; aged 48 y. 9 m. 16 d. He was a member of the Mornington A. M. congregation. He was married to Madeleine Zehr Dec. 14, 1911. To this union were born 9 children. Two preceded him in death. He leaves his wife and 7 children (Elizabeth, Sarah, Mary, Amanda, Jacob, John, and Madeleine), 8 sisters, and 1 brother. His father died June 8, 1935. His mother died Nov 9, 1929. He was sick with pleural pneumonia 2 weeks, after which meningitis set in. Funeral was held Oct. 27 at the home by Samuel Nafziger and at the Mornington A. M. Church by John Albright and Jacob Lichty. N. D. Beachy.

    MRS. PETER SPENLER

    Mrs. Peter (Mattie) Spenler, 71, of Milverton, died Thursday, December 22nd, at her home. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob S. Zehr, she was born in the Township of Wellesley September 25th, 1889. She was married to the late Peter Spenler in 1911. They farmed near Poole on the farm now owned by a son, John. Her husband died in 1935. She and her family remained on the farm until 1949 when they moved to Milverton, near the C.N.R. station. She was a member of the Amish Mennonite Church west of Poole. Surviving are two sons, Jacob, of Stratford, and John of Poole; five daughters, Elizabeth, Sarah and Amanda, at home, and Mrs. Lorne (Mary) Schmidt and Mrs. Norman (Madeliene) Gerber, of Millbank; two sisters, Mrs. William (Fannie) Poole, of Poole, and Nancy Zehr, of R.R. 1, Milverton; three brothers, Sam and William Zehr, of Poole, and Chris, K. Zehr, of Milverton, and 14 grandchildren. Three daughters died in infancy. The body rested at her home where the funeral was conducted Saturday at 1: 30 p.m., followed by a service at the Amish Mennonite Church, Poole, at 2: 15. Bishop Moses Nafziger officiated. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were, Clarence Poole, Mahlon Zehr, Ezra Jantzi, John L. Erb, John Poole and Emanuel Bast (all nephews).

    Spenler. - Peter Spenler was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., April 22, 1857; died at his home near Poole, Ont., June 8, 1935; aged 78 y. 1 m. 16 d. He united with the Amish Mennonite Church in his youth. He was married to Elisabeth Steinman, Mar. 18, 1879, who preceded him in death 5 years ago. He leaves to mourn his departure 2 sons and 8 daughters (Christian, Woodriver, Nebr.; Katie, widow of Jacob Bast, Wellesley, Ont.; Mary, wife of Geo. Poole, Poole, Ont.; Lizzie, wife of Norman Beachy, Meyersdale, Pa.; Fannie, wife of Daniel Yutzi, Milverton, Ont.; Peter, of Poole, Ont.; Barbara, wife of Samuel Beachy, Salisbury, Pa.; Leah, wife of Rudolph Beller, Grabill, Ind.; Lydia and Bena at home). Two sons and 1 daughter preceded him in death. 37 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Christ Bender, survive. He was ordained to the ministry nearly 44 years ago. He has been failing in health for nearly a year with complication of diseases and old age, which he bore patiently. He was confined to his bed less than 4 weeks. Funeral was held June 11, 1935, in the Mornington A. M. church by John Albright and Jacob Lichty. Texts, II Cor. 5: 1-10 and Jno. 5: 20-29. Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    Spenler.-Elizabeth (Steinman) Spenler, dau. of Christian and Mary Steinman, was born near Baden, Ont., Aug. 19, 1860; died Nov. 9, 1929; aged 69 y. 2 m. 17 d. Her death came very unexpectedly, the cause of which was heart failure. She passed away peacefully a short time after retiring as usual. The only notice given was a few short gasps for breath. In youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and was received into the Amish Mennonite Church. She remained a faithful member until death. On March 19, 1879, she was united in marriage to Pre. Peter Spenler. She leaves her husband, 2 sons, 8 daughters (Christian, Katie Bast, Mary Poole, Lizzie Beachy, Fanny Yutzi, Peter, Barbara Beachy, Leah Beller, Lydia, and Bena), 34 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild. Two sons and one daughter preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at the home by John Garber and at the Mornington A. M. church by John Gascho and Jacob Leichty. Texts, 1 Cor. 12; 11 Cor. 5; Jno. 5: 24-30. Interment in adjoining cemetery.
