    Notes:

    Aged Lady Laid To Rest

Mrs. Peter Appel whose maiden name was Julian Kaiser was born in Germany, June 22, 1833. At the age of 17 she came to Canada, living first at Philipsburg. Two years later she married Mr. Peter Appel and moved to the home where she died on July 1st. Her husband predeceased her 33 years ago and two children have also passed away. The surviving family are: Mrs. Sararas, Wilmot Centre, Herman, and Charles, of New Hamburg, John, of Walkerton, Edward, of New Hamburg, Mrs. Henry Feick, of Kitchener, George and Mrs. Joseph Bowman, of New Hamburg. There are also 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. These rise up to call her blessed and to rejoice in the memory of a noble christian woman

In early life she was converted and baptized in the month of February, 1859, becoming a member of the New Hamburg Baptist church and holding her membership 71 years. It was her joy to recount the struggles of these early days, her memory being always clear and accurate. For many years she has watched with interest the work of the church which she loved. To be her pastor was to have the fellowship of one of God's saints. She loved God's word, was strengthened by prayer and witnessed a good profession for the master who it was her joy to serve.

Mrs. Appel has always been very active and well, possessing all her faculties, enjoying the best of health. She was very happy in her own life and was surrounded with tender loving care on the part of those who shared the home life with her. Her life has been one of great unselfishness and sacrifice. Her home has always abounded in unstinted hospitality. A host of friends will miss her sweet smile and kind greeting. No gift failed to receive her warmest acknowledgment and sincere thanks. For everyone she had a welcome and appreciation.

God has spared her for 97 years. He has called her to her reward. Home is poorer but heaven is richer. May the inspiration of her life move everyone of us to serve Jesus Christ better.

The funeral services were held on Friday. After a brief service at the home conducted by the pastor, Mr. L. G. Pequegnat sang a German hymn. At the Evangelical church, Wilmot Centre, a large number gathered. Her pastor. Rev. E. G. Dale, spoke of the text "The Woes of Sin is Death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." He also paid well deserved tribute to the departed. A mixed quartette sang several selections. Rev. A. E. Pletsch delivered an address in German and Rev. Mosig, Becker and Morlock led in prayer. Burial took place in the near by cemetery. The pallbearers were six grandsons, Walter, Leslie and Oliver Bowman, Ralph and Elton Appel and Edward Eckel.
