    LUCAS, EDWARD LORNE

    Due to the aftermath of a stroke suffered some years ago, at 8 o'clock on the morning , at Knollwood Hospital in Kitchener in his 53rd year. He had been ailing for the past six years. Born in Killean, Puslinch Township, he resided in Doon, where he was employed with Doon Twines before making his home at 283 Fountain St. in Preston some years ago. In July 1932, he married Mary Ann Gillow, who survives. Mr. Lucas was a Presbyterian by faith, His father predeceased him on December 17 of last year. Also surviving is a daughter, Barbara Ann of Preston; three brothers, Thomas of Kitchener; John of Saskatchewan; William of western Canada; and a sister, Mrs. James Allan of SK. Service at the Stager- Pass Ltd. Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2: 30. Rev. H. G. Cleghorn of Knox Presbyterian Church officiated. Pallbearers: Floyd Schiedel, Edward Baxter, James McDonnell Sr. , all of Kitchener; Nelson, Arthur and John Gillow, all of Preston. Interment in Doon Cemetery.

    Notes:

    In the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, early on Wednesday morning, , in his 86th year. Husband of the late Matilda Munch, who predeceased him twenty years ago. He was a well known Doon resident for the past forty years. Ailing for some time, he had been confined to hospital, seriously ill, for the past two weeks. Born in Hamilton, he resided in that district the early part of his life, then in Puslinch Township and later in Doon. A farm labourer, he had lived retired for the past fifteen years. He was a Presbyterian by faith. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James Allen of Wilcox, SK; four sons, Thomas Lucas of Kitchener; John Lucas of Wilcox, SK; William Lucas in western Canada; Edward Lucas of Preston; and fifteen grandchildren. Predeceased by one daughter, Mrs. Harry Nahls, in 1944. Funeral on Fri. , Dec. 19 at 2 at the Stager-Pass Ltd. Funeral Home in Preston. Rev. H. G. Cleghorn officiated at the service. Pallbearers: John Gillow, John Sipes, Harry Nahls, Leonard Nahls, all of Blair; Nelson and Arthur Gillow of Preston. Interment Doon Cemetery.

Copeland of Galt officiated at the funeral, which was held on Thursday afternoon at the residence of her son-in-law, Harvey Nahls in Doon. Interment Doon Cemetery. Pallbearers: August Nahls, Dan Hamn, Charles Holt, John Cassell, Fred Sapsworth and Charles Reider.

    MUNCH, MARY (Nee Koch)

    A Fatal Accident in Puslinch

    Mrs. Munch, wife of Peter Munch, of lot 27, concession 1, Puslinch, under very painful circumstances. On October 21st 1875, she was walking home from her son's house in the Gore of Puslinch when, while crossing a field in Jacob Schultz' farm, a savage ram belonging to that gentleman, knocked her down with such force as to break three of her ribs. She lay in the field for some time until her son, who was ploughing in an adjoining field, went to her rescue and conveyed her home, where she was attended to by Dr. Orton of Morriston but despite every remedy that medical skill could devise, she died on October 31st in great agony.

    -Koch was pronounced "Cook". The Munch family emigrated to the U. S. , where they spent about 25 years. Their known children were born in the States. They were John (b. 1838); Henry ( b. 1846); William (b. 1850); Mary (b. 1851, Mrs. William Brown) of WalsinghamTwp. , Norfolk Co. ; Sarah (b. 1852, Mrs. William Mather) of Walsingham Twp. ; and Matilda (1859-1926, Mrs. William Lucas ) of Doon.

    -Information from Our Germans Were Linked Through Puslinch Township by Chris Bowman and B. & B. Woolsey: Peter Munsch was the son of Nicholas Munch and his wife, Christina Mugler of Hambach, Lorraine, France. Brothers of Peter Munsch were George (1806-1868) of Puslinch and Nicholas.
