    Ezra Snyder

    HAMILTON. A former resident of Kitchener, the death occurred here on Tuesday of Ezra S. Snyder, 79. Born at Lexington, Mr. Snyder had lived near Blair, later moving to Kitchener where he resided for several years.

    He is survived by his wife. two daughters, Mrs. E. Brubacher, Grimsby, and Mrs. Fred Raynor, of Rittman, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Aaron Shantz, Waterloo, and Miss. Barbara Snyder, of Bridgeport; six grandchildren also survive.

    The funeral will be held this (Friday) afternoon from the home. of his daughter, Mrs. E. Brubacher, Grimsby, to First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, at 3 p.m. for service. Interment will be made in First Mennonite Cemetery.

    Benjamin B. Snyder, "was born October 3rd, 1823, On March 27th, 1845, he was married to Magdalena, daughter of Isaac and Esther (Bechtel) Shantz. She was born April 19th, 1825, and died April 19th, 1887. Soon after their married they moved on the farm now in possession of their son, Jonathan, where they resided until her death. At present he has his home with his daughter, Jemima, who is married to Mr. a. S. Shantz. Mr. Snyder's family consisted of seven children".

    Jacob Snyder Jr., was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, January 15th, 1794. He was twelve years of age when his parents moved to Canada and settled in Waterloo County, near Bloomingdale, where young Jacob was raised. In February, 1818, he was married to Mary Baumann (No. 51) who was born May 25th, 1794, and died March 12th, 1826. Some time after the deceased of his first wife he was again married to Magdalena Baumann (No. 53), sister to his first wife. Soon after his married he moved on the farm now possessed by Rev. Menno B. Bowman where he resided until his death which took place October 3rd, 1862. His family consisted of ten children, of whom six were born unto his first wife."

    A-1-55 Isaac Shantz: Last Will and Testament of Isaac Shantz of the Township of Waterloo.

    …I, Isaac Shantzs of the Township of Waterloo, being of good health and of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament…That is to say first, that all my just debts shall be paid, Second I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Esther, all my Books, four beds and bedsteads, my stove and pipe, my 24-hour clock and case, my case of Drawers, my bureau and cubboard[sic] and all that is in them both, one spinning wheel and real one table and kitchen furniture to the amount of ten dollars; also two cows and six sheep and two hundred dollars in cash out of the first moneys arising out of my Estate, and sixty dollars as Dowry, or the interest at six percent on one thousand dollars, each and every year during her natural life, further I order and devise and it is my will, that my son Isaac B. Shantz shall have my farm at Three thousand dollars in manner and form following, that is to say, the said Isaac is to pay two thousand dollars in ten annual yearly equal installments of two hundred dollars each, and also sixty dollars as the interest on one thousand dollars, each and every year during widowhood of my beloved wife. Should my loving wife depart this natural life, before the two thousand dollars are fully paid, then my son Isaac, or his successors, shall pay two hundred and fifty dollars each and every year, till the full amount of three thousand dollars are fully paid….I give and bequeath to all my sons and daughters, or their heirs and successors share and share alike, except my daughter Mary Herner, she is to have the interest at six per cent on her share each and every year, so long as she is and remains the wife of Samuel Herner, after his death, the said Samuel Herner, she or her heirs shall have her full share and portion as my other children, and I do hereby nominate my son Samuel Shantz and my son-in-law Abraham Mayer, as Executors in full power, as my own person of this my Last Will and Testament.

    Jacob (Yoch) Schneider, "the seventh member of his father's family, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, January 24th, 1764. In 1790 he was married to Mary, daughter of Christian and Mary (Scherch) Erb (No. 2777). She was born March 2nd, 1766 and died in Waterloo County, Ontario, near Bloomingdale, August 27th, 1835. In 1806 he, with his wife and family, his brother Christian and family, and others, moved to Canada and settled in Waterloo County. Old Yoch, as he was generally called, settled on the east bank of the Grand River, near Bloomingdale, on the farms now possessed by Benjamin S. Snyder, Josiah S. Snyder, and Rev. Menno B. Bowman where he was engaged in farming and acquiring real estate so as to be able to give a large farm to each one of his children.     Jacob Snider: The Last Will and Testament of Jacob Snider, late of the Township of Waterloo.

    I, Jacob Snider, Sr. of the Township of Waterloo, Yeoman, being of sound and perfect mind and memory…I give and bequeath to all my sons and daughters, share and share alike, all my freehold and personal property of what kind and nature soever, except my farm, Levi Bechtel now living on for which I hold the deed for which is Lot No. 69 in Waterloo aforesaid, the said Levi Bechtel is to have the benefit of the said Lot during his natural life, then the said lot is to fall to his children, and all the share and shares arising out of my property after my decease which falls to my daughter Magdalene, wife of Levi Bechtel and will remain for the heirs of daughter Magdalene, except for the yearly interest, which Levi Bechtel was to have during his natural life. Should my said daughter Magdalena die, and Levi marry again, he should still have the benefit of the farm, but not the interest of any money out of the estate. .Further, I order and desire and it is my Will that the share that falls to 'my' daughter Elizabeth Snider shall remain on interest during her life, for which interest my daughter Elizabeth Snider shall be kept during her life with good and sufficient meal and drink, washing and lodging and other things necessary for her comfortable support during her life, and after her death, her share is to be divided amongst the other sons and daughters, except Magdalene, wife of Levi Bechtel, who is to have the interest or he as long as he does not marry again, and after hid decease all shall fall his children the heirs of my daughter Magdalene, the Lot No. 69, which I hold the deed will be seen by the receipts after my decease aled also notes signed by Levi Bechtel as well as by others so that all my estate will be made equally share and share alike as before mentioned, always to save her share for her and her children only the benefit of the farm during his natural life and the interest of all moneys till he married again, then that is to be stopped for his first children…And I do nominate, constitute and appoint in full power, as my own person, my son Christian J.     Isaac Shantz, "was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, January 14th, 1748. On May 4th, 1774, he was married to Barbara Reiff who was born September 12th, 1753. He died on his farm situated on the Schuylkill River, within the corporation of Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania on October 11th, 1802. They had a family of nine children, eight of whom they raised. Their names are as follows: III Mary, III Abraham, III Christian, III Jacob, III Isaac, III David, III Veronica, III Samuel, and III Joseph. In 1808, she with her two sons, David and Isaac, and her daughter Veronica, moved to Canada and settled on the farm now possessed by Abraham H. Wambold, about one and one-half miles south of Berlin, and part of this farm is now possessed by Enos Shantz, one of her great-grandchildren. Here she resided until her death which took place September 25th, 1820. (Contributed by her son, Joseph) She was of an amiable disposition, rather small in statue but robust and of a quick turn. At 60 years of age she would mount her pony like a young man. She is buried in the Christian Eby Burial Ground, Berlin, Ontario. We shall now give the descendants of Isaac Shantz."
