    Notes:

Donald Macrae was born on the Black Isle, Ross-shire in January 1762 and died on 02 April 1833. A Donald Macrae was buried in Petty Old Churchyard 1833 aged 71: this is likely to be him. At the time of his marriage he was a tenant farmer at Torgorma(i)g, near Redcastle. In 1833 there is a reference to Donald Macrae being a tenant farmer at Culcabock, Inverness and son and heir to Alexander Macrae, a farmer of Wester Kessock. At the Black Isle Episcopal Chapel at Arpafeelie, Knockbain parish on 09 December 1791 he married Isabel Young (of the same parish). She was born in September 1774 and died on 10 December 1813 and she is believed to have been closely related to Murdo Young who edited "The Sun" newspaper in London. Following Isabel's death, Donald married Catherine Grant in the Inverness-shire parish of Croy & Dalcross on 09 or 11 December 1817: she was born in October 1796 and died on 30 March 1844. When Donald and Catherine's first three children were born, the family were living at Galcantray (a farm near Cawdor, Nairn): their last three children were born in the village of Culcabock (now part of Inverness). At the time of the 1841 census the family were living at Culcabock though Donald had died by that time: present were Donald's widow Catherine aged 40 who was a female servant, Alexander a tailor apprentice aged 15, Ronald aged 12, Margaret aged 10 and Catherine aged 8.
