    Notes:

    John Gordon was one of a party that came to Elora in October, 1834. He there married Fanny (Frances) Martin, and built a house, but shortly afterward settled on the farm which is now owned by their son, Albert Gordon, on the east side of the road, a little north of Winterbourne. John Gordon's father, mother and three sisters came out from Scotland a few years later than he did and lived with him. The father and son were master cabinet makers in the City of Aberdeen.

    For some time after the Davidson family left, the Gordon home was known as the Lower Woolwich post-office, and the old, original letter box is said to be still in use in the present Winterbourne office.

    One of John Gordon's sisters, Jane, was the wife of Thomas H. Lanphier of the children of John Gordon and Fanny Martin: John married Leah Britton and lives in Eramosa; William married Miss Quarry, of Dundas, and is now in Stratford; Eliza married Dr John Douglas, now in Chicago, and Albert married Eliza Lanphier and now lives on the old home.
