RUGGLE, Ruth Lillian (nee Schweitzer) - Passed away at Bellville General Hospital, on February 26, 2007, in her 99th year. Ruth Ruggle, former resident of The Anchorage Condo Complex, was born in Aurora Ontario, on February 23, 1909, the daughter of the late Edward Schweitzer and Elizabeth Tennis. Wife of the late Frank Ruggle. Her early years were spent in the village of Conestogo where she was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. After graduating from Business College, she worked for several years at Dominion Life in Waterloo, Ontario. Ruth married Frank Ruggle in 1947. They lived in Waterloo, Burlington, and finally in Belleville and Oak Lake, near Stirling.She is survived by her sister, Georgina (Jim) Struthers, of Toronto and her brother, Bill (Myrtle) Schweitzer of St. Catharines. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.She is predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Hahn and her brother, Walter Schweitzer. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening at the Steele Funeral Home, Moira Street Chapel, Belleville (30 Moira Street West, 613 968-2273) from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel of Parkview Cemetery (335 University Ave. East, Waterloo) on Friday, March 2, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with interment to follow at Parkview. The family would like to thank her caregivers who have looked after her so well in the past few years.

CONESTOGA - Edward Schweitzer, 70, died at Toronto yesterday following a long illness. He was a native of Conestoga. Surviving are his wife, two sons, William, Toronto; Walter, Preston; three daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Phyllis) Hahn, Waterloo, Mrs. Frank (Ruth) Ruggle, Belleville; and Georgianne, Toronto; one brother, Charles, Conestogo, and one sister Miss Marion Schweitzer, Conestogo. A private funeral service will be held at Toronto at 1 p.m. Saturday. The casket will remain open at the Conestogo Lutheran Church for some time to allow friends to pay their respects. Interment will be made in the Conestogo Cemetery. Rev. Harold Brose will officiate

On the 27^th of January there passed peacefully away one of the oldest residents of our burg in the person of Mr. Martin Schweitzer, at the advanced age of 72 years 5 months and 14 days.

Three years ago he began his sufferings from cancer and about a year and a half ago, dropsy set in, from which he suffered until his death. He was born in Effingen, Grand Duchy of Baden, Germany. After his confirmation he learned the cooper trade and in 1853 he emigrated to Buffalo, U.S.

In 1859, he married Miss Philippian Fleher and in the following year he removed to Conestogo where for 34 years he was proprietor of "Schweitzer's Hotel" from which he retired and spent the remainder of his life in his brick residence. The deceased was an active member of the Lutheran Church for 44 years.

Mr. Schweitzer leaves behind him a widow, three daughters and five sons, one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, two brothers and four sisters to mourn his loss. We extend to the bereaved widow and family our deepest sympathy in their hour of sadness.
