    Notes:

Sylvester Moyer, D. D. S., "was born near Beamsville, Lincoln County, Ontario, February 20th, 1859. He spent his boyhood days on the farm. When about seventeen years of age he attended the High School and in a year thereafter passed the teachers' examination for the province of Ontario. For ten years he was engaged as a public school teacher, after which time he found teaching not altogether to his taste, he resigned his position as principal of the Preston public schools and directed his attention to the profession of dentistry. In due time he received the degree of L. D. S. and soon after the degree of D. D. S. from the Toronto University. Immediately after passing his examinations he bought an established business in Galt, Ontario, where he has since been engaged in his profession and is, according to report, doing an extensive and remunerative business. On October 12th, 1886, he was married to Jennie Hunter. His family consists of two children, namely: Leslie Clare and Alice Maud."

Local News Items: Mr. Sylvester Moyer, at one time teacher of the third division of our public school, made a short visit to Elmira last Friday.…Since leaving here Mr. Moyer has abandoned teaching, and has now one of the best dental practices in the progressive town of Galt.

"A most interesting personality from Galt history is Dr. Sylvester Moyer, DDS, LDS. While serving as Preston's high school principal, he decided dentistry was his destiny. Completing courses at Toronto, he returned to Galt and from the mid-1880s spent 20 years in practice. To complete a meandering business career, shingle manufacturing next attracted Sylvester. In 1908 and 1911, he ran for Parliament, finishing second to Conservative George Clare."

    Notes:

    Rapidly Following Deaths

It is but a little more than a week ago that we were called upon to chronicle the death of Mr. Alexander Cranston, of this town, and today the painful duty devolves upon us of saying that, rapidly following him, came first, on Friday last, the death of his aged mother, in her 90th year, and on Saturday the death of his sister, Mrs. John Veitch, aged 66 years. The death of the aged lady, Mrs. Cranston, was not unexpected, as for some time she had been failing; but that of Mrs. Veitch was quite sudden. She had been ailing for a few days with a chest trouble to which she was somewhat subject, but not so seriously as to cause uneasiness amongst her relatives. On Friday, however, she became worse and from that time rapidly sank until her death on Saturday morning. This lady was the widow of the late John Veitch, being the eldest of her family. Of her own children there are living Mrs. John Cant, Mrs. Thos. McDougall, Mrs. John Blackwood, Miss Agnes Veitch, Mr. Robert Veitch, Mr. James Veitch, (the latter having been compelled by illness to come home for a short time,) and Mr. Alexander Veitch, of Nevada. The deaths of two of her sons, - William, in Galt, and John, in Nevada, - will be fresh in the minds of many of their old school fellows. Both had grown to manhood and both, although wide travelers, had always looked upon this as their home, coming now and again to renew the friendships of their youth.

Mrs. Cranston was buried on Saturday by the side of her husband in the old cemetery at Cedar Creek. Of this lady's descendant's there are 48 great0grandchildren. \endash The funeral of Mrs. Veitch took place on Monday, her remains being interred in Galt cemetery.
