WILLIAM BERNHARDT PASSES AWAY IN HIS SEVENTY-EIGHTH YEAR.

FOR THIRTY YEARS HE WAS THE PROPRIETOR OF THE WESTERN HOTEL.

Galt's veteran hotelman, Mr. William Bernhardt, passed away Saturday evening at 8: 45 at his residence, 104 Ainslie Street South. Deceased had been in failing health for the past six years, having been stricken with paralysis six years ago. He was not only one of Galt's oldest residents but the town's oldest hotelkeeper, being in his 78th year. Though born in Buffalo, N.Y., he spent practically all of his life in Galt. His death was due to general breakdown..

William Bernhardt came here when young, and the only time he was away from Galt for any lengthy period was two years he had spent in Hamilton. He had been identified with the hotel business in Galt for close onto half a century. For over thirty years he conducted the Western Hotel, which he owned, and he was in the old Grand Hotel for five years and at one time conducted what is now the New Royal Hotel. He was one of Western Ontario's best know hotelmen. He continued in the hotel business until taken ill about six years ago. In late years he devoted most of his time to his four farms located near Galt, one on the Cedar Creek Road, and three near Branchton.

In religion he was a Lutheran and he was also a member of the Masonic order.
Besides a widow there survive a family of four - Mrs. T.J. Wagner of Newmarket; Mrs. N.P. Townsend, of Washington, D.C.; William G. of Berlin, and Frank of London.
