    Ruth I. Guthrie

    Miss Ruth Isabelle Guthrie of Teller Place, Paris, passed away at Brantford General Hospital on Wednesday, May 2nd. Born on the Guthrie home farm, RR 2, Paris, she was a daughter of the late Robert E. Guthrie and Margaret Smith. Miss Guthrie was a charter member of the Paris 3H Club; faithful member of St. Paul's United Church, Paris and the United Church Women; former secretary of Grand River Branch United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada; former secretary-clerk at Paris Post Office and Paris P.U.C. Surviving are a brother Wilbur of Paris; a sister Dora and her husband Dr. James Carson of Mt. Pleasant; seven nieces and nephews and 18 great-nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris, on Friday. Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    Robert E. Guthrie Passes

    The death occurred at Willett Hospital, Paris, this (Wednesday) Morning of Robert E. Guthrie, of Paris, in his 76th year. The late Mr. Guthrie moved to Paris about five years ago after farming for many years on the place now owned, by his son, Wilbur Guthrie, near Paris. He was born in Blenheim Township, a son of the late Henry Guthrie and Esther Ritchie. Mr. Guthrie was a valued member and a former elder of St. Paul's United Church, Paris. Surviving besides, his wife, the former Margaret Smith, are two daughters, Ruth, at home, and Mrs. J. H. (Dora) Carson, Mt. Pleasant; a son, Wilbur, RR 2, Paris; three sisters, Mrs. Theo (Mary) Sayles, RR2 Paris; Mr. Thomas (Jean) Kelley and Miss Margaret Guthrie, both of Ayr. Seven grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. from the Cumming Funeral Home, Paris, with interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Mrs. Robert E. Guthrie Passes - Mrs. Robert E. Guthrie passed away on Wednesday, April 19, at the Brantford General Hospital in her 83rd year. Born in South Dumfries Township, daughter of the late John Alexander Smith and Isabella Marshall, Mrs. Guthrie had lived all her life in that area until retiring from the farm in 1954, when she and her husband took up residence at 44 Banfield Street, Paris. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church and of the United Church Women, a life member of the Bible Society and a member of the West Dumfries Farm Women's Club. She was predeceased by her husband in January 1961. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Ruth Guthrie of 44 Banfield a St., Paris, and Mrs. J. (Dora) Carson of Mt. Pleasant, and one son, Wilbur of RR 2, Paris; also by seven grandchildren and a brother, Carl Smith of RR 3, Ayr. - The Funeral - A largely attended funeral service was held from Cumming and Glaves Funeral Home, Paris, on Friday at 2.30 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Andrew T. Denholm officiating. Temporary entombment took place in the chapel at Ayr Cemetery, with future interment in Ayr Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Thomas Ritchie, Clarence Sayles; Ward Smith, Sherman Smith, King Kyle and Malcolm Bethune.

    Henry Guthrie Passes

    Native of South Dumfries Township Was in His 85th Year-Prominent Farmer

    Robert Henry Guthrie, a highly-esteemed and respected resident of South Dumfries township, passed away in Victoria Hospital, London, on Saturday, October 20th, in his 85th year. Mr. Guthrie was born on the 9th concession of Blenheim township, being a son of Robert Guthrie and Jane Manson, Scottish pioneers.

    In his early twenties, he settled on the farm in South Dumfries where he had since resided. He was always keenly interested in agriculture and operated his farm successfully for some sixty years.

    Mr. Guthrie was a man of strong, upright character, always upholding the best interests of his country and the community in which he lived.

    He was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Paris, and prior to church union was a member of the session of the Presbyterian Church for a period of thirty years. He also was a teacher and superintendent of the Paris Plains Sunday School for a number of years.

    Mrs. Guthrie, whose maiden name was Esther Ritchie, predeceased him in 1932.

    He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Murdo McRae; one son, Robert E. Guthrie, and four daughters, Mrs. John Kyle, Mrs. Thomas Kelley, Mrs. Theodore Sayles, and Miss Margaret, at home; also fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

    The funeral services, which were largely attended, took place Tuesday afternoon from his late residence, Crystal Spring Farm, 4th concession of South Dumfries, with interment being made in Ayr Cemetery. Rev. R. M. Geiger, B.A., conducted the services and brought messages of comfort to the bereaved. There were many beautiful floral tributes. The pallbearers were six grandsons: Wilbur Guthrie, Robert, Clarence and Thomas Sayles, Kingsburgh and Robert Kyle.

    Funeral of Mrs. Guthrie

    The funeral took place to the Ayr Cemetery on Monday afternoon of the late Mrs. Robert Henry Guthrie of South Dumfries, whose death occurred on Saturday. The services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Wilson, pastor of the United Church, Paris, and the pallbearers were as follows: John Clark. Blenheim; Walter Clark, Ayr; Thomas Ritchie, Roy Guthrie, South Dumfries; Murdo McRae and Geo. Wm. Black, Paris. Deceased, whose maiden name was Esther Ritchie, was born near Washington and had lived in this district all of her lifetime. She was in her 80th year. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son and four daughters, viz.: Robert E. Guthrie, Paris; Mrs. John Kyle, near Drumbo; Mrs. T. Kelly and Mrs. T. Sayles, Paris, and Miss Margaret, at home.
