    James H. Kyle Passes

One of the district's best-known farmers and a pioneer dairyman, James Kingsburgh Kyle died at his home on the 7th Concession on Friday. He was in his 86th year. A son of the late George Kyle and Margaret Kingsburgh Kyle, he was born in the district where he spent his entire life-time. Spring Valley Farm, with its broad expanse of rolling acres, was a familiar name in the district, and the fine Jersey herd owned by Mr. Kyle made an excellent record in the dairy field. Years ago he took over the Spring Valley Dairy in Paris as a family enterprise and it was operated by his son Hector up until a few years ago. The dairy supplied milk to Ayr, Paris and much of the outlying district, and gained an excellent reputation for its product - particularly the Jersey milk. The herd at Spring Valley Farm supplied a major part of the milk. The late Mr. Kyle took a deep interest in agricultural affairs in his younger years, and was associated with various organizations working toward the improvement of the farmers' lot. He was a popular figure in social circles and an outstanding hunter and angler. Mr. Kyle was one of the founders of the Hardy Bay Hunt Club which has been hunting deer annually on the French River for many years. His skill and knowledge in this sport were recognized by his companions who enjoyed his company on these trips up until only a few years ago. The late Mr. Kyle was a most interesting conversationalist in his quiet-spoken way. His topics were always well spiced with a native dry wit which was signaled by the approaching jolly smile. He was a valued member of Knox United Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. David Brown (Esther), RR 3, Bright; Mrs. Richard Baxter (Helen), RR 3, Bright, and Miss Jean, at home; also a son, Hector of Ayr. Several grandchildren survive as well. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Jean Black, in 1953; by a son, Harold in 1952, and by a daughter Edith, many years ago.

    The Funeral

Funeral service was held from the William Kipp Funeral Home, Paris, on Monday with entombment in Ayr Cemetery Chapel. Rev. W. V. Buchanan officiated. The pallbearers were Spencer Elmes, Cameron Edgar, John Nunan and Kingsburgh Kyle, all of the district; Douglas Black of Paris and Ted Muma of Ancaster.

    The Death of James Black

There died on Monday, Sept 25,1922, at his late residence, lot No. 2, in the 8th concession of the township of Blenheim, after a severe, lingering illness of nearly two years, James Black, son of the late George Black, Sr., in his 68th year. The deceased was of a quiet, unassuming, kind and friendly nature, and in return was beloved by a host of friends, as was attested by the many who visited him in sympathy during his long and unrelenting, fatal illness. Mr. Black lived all his life in the vicinity of Ayr, on the farm on which he died and on the adjoining farm, except for a few years on the Paris Plains. In the early eighties Mr. Black was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Guthrie, who predeceased him 36 years ago. By this union there were 3 sons and 1 daughter, viz.: George W. of Paris; Robert J. and Marr, of Strathclair, Man., and Mrs. James Kyle near Ayr, all of whom are left to mourn their sad loss. In later life Mr. Black remarried, being united in wedlock with Miss Janet Rodger, who, together with their 2 sons, Glendon and Lloyd, now mourn the passing of a kind and loving father. Mr. George D. Black, an only brother, is also one of the sorrowing mourners, along with a large circle of relatives and keenly the deep sense of their loss in the removal by death of a kind friend and neighbor. The funeral takes place today, (Thursday) at 2: 30 p. m., to Ayr Cemetery.

    Notes:

The Passing of Mrs. Geo. Black, Sr.

Another of the early pioneers has passed away n the person of Mrs. George Black, sr., who departed this life, after an illness of several months, from heart trouble and dropsy, on Monday morning, the 9th of November, 1908, in the 81st year of her age. When quite young she came from Scotland to this country with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Edgar, and other members of the family, in or about the year 1886. They resided for a short time in the Dickie settlement, and removed, in the course of a year or so to the family homestead, known as the "Hill" farm, some two miles west of Ayr. Here many of the trials incident to pioneer times were met and overcome, and many of the happy scenes of home life, too sacred for pen and ink, were passed, while they tarried together within the golden gates of time. The deceased was the fourth of a family of ten brothers and sisters, of whom four survive, viz.: Alexander and James of the township of Howick, Mrs. Thomas Black of Elora, and Mrs. William Elliott of Ayr. In 1854, the subject of our sketch, whose family name was Mary Edgar, was united in marriage to George Black of the township of Blenheim, who predeceased her some nine years. the union proved a happy one, resultant in long life and harmony, the building up of a beautiful home, the enjoyment of the esteem and confidence of friends and neighbors far and near, and the benign blessing of a loving Heavenly Father. Two sons were born of this union, James and George, and who survive their mother and with their children and grandchildren are left to mourn the loss of one dear to all, and whose heart was bound up in love for home and children. Busy in life and buoyant in spirit, she held a prominent place in the hearts of all those who knew her, and will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends. She was famed for her superior domestic qualities and in unwearied deeds of kindness her handiwork excelled. Deceased was a member of Stanley St. Church and will be missed from her place of worship there, and from homes where she was often wont to visit in welcome, winning friendship. To the sorrowing sons and relatives and friends we extend our sincere sympathy n this their season of great grief. The funeral, which took place on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., from her late residence to the Ayr cemetery, was very largely attended, the services being conducted by her pastor, the Rev. D. I. Ellison.
