    Philip A. Schiedel

    Philip A. Schiedel, 130 Allan Street East, Waterloo, died at St. Mary's Hospital today in his 63rd year. The deceased had been ill for some time and was admitted to the hospital yesterday. A wood carver by trade, he was a member of the Catholic Order of foresters, Holy Name Society and the St. Boniface society. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Noah Schiedel of Bridgeport.

    Surviving are his widow, four brothers, Andrew of Kitchener, John in Texas, Robert of Detroit, and Abram of Toronto, and one sister, Miss Alice of Kitchener.

    Funeral services will be held Friday morning from his residence to St. Louis R.C. church, Waterloo, for services at 9 o'clock with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener. Remains will rest at the Lippert-Hunter funeral Home until 2 p.m. Wednesday.

    Noah Schiedel, "the youngest son of Martin and Susannah (Ries) Schiedel, was born on the old "Schiedel Farm" near Breslau, June 15th, 1839. After spending his boyhood on the old farm he, at the age of sixteen years, commenced his life as a clerk with Messrs Yost & Wideman of St. Jacobs, in whose services he remained one year, thence he went to Elmira and engaged himself to Rev. Philip Winkler in whose store he was clerking for three years. Upon leaving Elmira he entered into Partnership with his brother Isaac and started business in Breslau where he remained one year. After leaving Breslau he was engaged in Bridgeport and later in Baden where he was in business for five years, and finally he returned to Bridgeport where he is doing a well paying business in manufacturing brooms. On August 6th, 1859, he was married to Nancy Ferrier who was born August 29th, 1841. Their home is the old "Peter N. Taggie Residence" which property he purchased in 1872. To them are born nine children"

In 1825 (about a month after their marriage) they, in company with the Clemmers, Clemenses, and others, moved to Canada and settled near Breslau, Ontario, where they resided until their deaths. He died April 28th, 1863, leaving a family of eight children"

    Hannes Schiedel, "the ancestor of all the Schiedels of this county, was born in Wurtenberg, Germany, about the year 1775. In 1815 he with his wife and family emigrated to America and settled in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, where they died, leaving a family (since writing the above it has been ascertained that here were two more sons, viz: Jacob and Frederick who remained in Pennsylvania) of several children. The names of two of the sons were John and Martin who were the only members of the family that settled in Canada."
