Hit by lightning last Wednesday afternoon was an old homesteader from Logan. Mr. Heinrich Grube, Sr., at Lot 27 in the 7th Concession was hit by lightning and died instantly.

Mr. Grube was 80 years old and a strong man. He was working in the field shelling peas. His work included taking care of the horses gears. All of a sudden a thunder storm came close, and he left the field with two pitch forks over his shoulders. As he came close to the wire fence, lightning hit him and the fence, also splitting a cedar post right in half. Other family members left the field a little earlier. They saw lightning hit the fence. They wondered where the old man was, they couldn't see him, so they went back and found him on the ground dead by the fence. The lightning had torn his clothes down to his leather boots, his hair burnt.

The dead man, Heinrich Grube, was born in the year 1814 in Wollmershausen, Hannover, Germany. He came to this country 48 years ago, and lived in the early pioneer times in New Hamburg as a shemaker. He later on quit the shoemaking business and moved to a farm by Tavistock, where he later on moved from again to the place where he died.

The dead man, Heinrich Grube, who was the brother-in-law of Mr. Jacob Ritz in New Hamburg. He left behind his wife and 12 children, 2 sons and 10 daughters, which were very sadened by his death. The funeral was celebrated by the Rev. Grusner from New Dundee.
