    Walter Dickinson

    PRESTON - Walter Dickinson, prominent Preston citizen and well-known business man, died early today to the K-W Hospital, Kitchener. He had been ill for the last three months and had been in the hospital one day prior to his death. He was born in Ulderstan. England, and came to Canada in 1914. Settling in London, Ont., he later moved to Windsor, where he became engaged in the furniture business. In 1938 he moved to Preston and purchased the furniture store and business owned by H. K. Stager. A director of the Preston Chamber of Commerce, the late Mr. Dickinson was chairman of the retail section of the chamber in 1950. He successfully organized the merchants section and maintained a keen interest in the work. A member of St. John's Anglican Church, he was a member of the advisory council of the board of management at the time of his death. In previous years he was a member of the board of management and the senior choir. He taught a senior boys, Sunday school class for several years and was a Scoutmaster of the Third Preston troop. He was a member of St. John's Lodge, AF and AM, London, Ont.. He is survived by his wife, Ellen G., two daughters, Susan and Betsy; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Ireland and Mrs. Mabel Armer, London, Ont.; five brothers, Ernest and John, Montreal; Frank, London, Ont.; Sidney, Guelph and Thomas, Huntington Park, Calif. James Dickinson and Miss Mae Dickinson, a brother and sister, predeceased him. Funeral services will be held at St. John's Anglican Church on Tuesday at 3 p.m., with Rev. R. T. Appleyard officiating. The body is now resting at the Stager-Pass Ltd. Funeral Home, interment will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Preston.
