    Notes:

Wed. Apr. 24 High wind mostly cloudy cool. I hauled manure from town for the asparagus patch and some strawey manure from Martin Straub for the raspberries and plum trees which are beside asparagus - afternoon I and Jake hauled out of our manure yard to finish both those jobs - then hauled a load of ground up for the hot house, mornings I also got a price of 8 x 10 glass by case lots - it is about 2¢ a sheet. Herb trimmed red raspberry plants all day. - after supper I planted a few trees from Stark and the grapes and one plant of red raspberry

    Arrested on Suspicion

A Stranger Locked up, Suspected of having Stolen Money from a Boarding House.

    Subsequently Discharged

Wednesday evening a tall young man, of respectable appearance, and well dressed, came to the residence of Mr Martin Straub, who keeps a boarding house on John St, and asked to secure accommodation for some time. He was taken in and room allotted to him for the time. During the morning Mrs Straub sent her daughter up to her room to get her purse as there was some shopping to be done, but on receiving the purse was astonished to find that only 4 cents remained. The new boarder left, the house during the forenoon. Suspicion at once fastened itself upon the stranger and the police authorities were notified. Thinking that he might have left town, messages were about to be sent to different points when one of the boarders, who was in company with the chief, saw the stranger coming down the street and he was at once placed under arrest on suspicion, and taken to the lockup. Mr Harry Filsinger, who is employed in Mr. H. Hymmen's plumbing and heating department also boards at the above place, and was told the story when he went to dinner. He went to his room and instead of finding his purse in its usual place, found it lying on the floor and over $9 missing, $8 in bills, the balance in silver and shin plaster, there being 50c 1 ft .n the purse.

Where did the money go to is the natural question. The authorites, intend to find whether the newcomer has any connection with the matter. When he arrived at the house he said he was staying in town, taking music or singing lessons from a Miss ____ in the eastern part of the town. He has been in town now for some time as several weeks ago he applied at Mrs. S. Weaver's house for board. He got three meals. then quietly left.

    DISMISSED BY THE MAGISTRATE.

The stranger was up before the magistrate this afternoon and as the evidence was not strong enough to convict, he was dismissed. He appears to be a very respectable man, and offered to pay Mrs. Straub the $2 she missed, though declaring he did not take it. He gave his name as Good.
